Status: Regular Part time

Compensation: $25.48/hr. (Includes wage enhancement) plus an extensive benefit plan

ABOUT BEACON NATURE CLUB:

Beacon’s newest childcare center opened September 2022 at the beautiful Pexsisen Elementary School in Langford, BC. Beacon’s Nature Club Before and After School Care program serves children who attend Pexsisen Elementary. Beacon’s Little Stars Pre-School program at Pexsisen welcomes 3 to 5 year-olds who live within Pexsisen Elementary’s catchment area.

Our philosophy for the center and our programs is focused on promoting learning and play that are rooted in the natural world. We seek to encourage children to actively discover the wonders of the landscape around them while discovering more about themselves through meaningful connections with their peers and the environment.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Facility Site Supervisor and the Manager of OSC & Licensing Services, the Early Childhood Educator joins a caring and compassionate team dedicated to providing engaging and safe programs to the children and families in their community. This position will require the successful ECE applicant to be responsible for organizing the preschool program in collaboration with the ECEA, as well as being in ratio during the Before School Care Program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Demonstrate teamwork with the ECEA and Facility Site Supervisor to plan, implement, and evaluate a range of developmentally age-appropriate activities
• Open the Center daily for Before School Care programs, demonstrating strong leadership and organizational qualities for the team to ensure and maintain the success of the program
• Maintain an inclusive and safe program that upholds the mental, physical and emotional safety and well-being of the children
• Provide a supportive environment that role models safe care-giving practices and provides learning opportunities for parents when applicable
• Provide parents with updates on their children’s progress/development in the program using a variety of communication mediums
• Provide nutritionally valuable foods for the children following Food Safe standards and guidelines
• Value maintaining a clean, organized and visually attractive work space
• Acknowledge and uphold the Beacon Community Services philosophies and policies, while also being aware of families’ philosophies, to provide an inclusive, accepting and culturally aware program
• Be aware of and strive to maintain the policies and procedures created and implemented by Beacon Community Services
• Adhere to BC Child Care Regulations
• Report any concerns to the Facility Site Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

• A valid Early Childhood Education certificate
• Valid First Aid certificate, as outlined by Child Care Regulations
• Valid Food Safe certificate (to be renewed every 3 years)
• WHMIS certification
• Minimum of 40 professional development hours (to be completed every 5 years)

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

• Previous experience working with children and families within a childcare setting
• Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully both verbally and in writing
• An energetic, nurturing and sensitive attitude that encourages the development of children
• Ability to work effectively as a team leader for the Before School Care programs
• Ability to maintain professional composure and attitude, even in high stress situations
