FINANCE SUPERVISOR
Position Title: Finance Supervisor (Permanent)
Hours of work: Flexible (35 hours per week)
Salary Start: $52,951.44 annually

Position Summary
Responsible for supervising the financial functions of the organization and assist the Executive Director with reporting requirements and funding proposals.
Key Responsibilities/Duties
To ensure timely payments of vendor invoices and expense vouchers and maintains accurate financial records and control reports
To ensure government financial filings are completed accurately and filed on a timely basis
To complete Monthly Workplan task in a correct and timely manner
To provide assistance to Executive Director for the completion of proposals and other requests
To review processed invoices for accuracy and correct allocations
To process EFT and bank transfer payments through on-line banking for approval
To supervise daily transactions, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, general ledger, and bank reconciliations
To prepare for and participate in all audits
To prepare financial statements, budget reports and forecast reports
To supervise month-end and year-end closing
To monitor the daily performance of the finance department
To organize financial data into useable information and maintain updated records
To track the progress of financial and accounting objectives
To assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly accounting reports.
To analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting legislation
To identify potential cash flow problems and financial irregularities
To liaise with department heads to ensure that each department remains within budget
To perform reconciliations of all general ledger accounts
To ensure effective arrears management, in conjunction with the Housing Coordinator
To supervise and provide overall guidance to finance department staff
To provide regular updates to management regarding company finances
Other Duties
To work from a holistic perspective, utilizing the teachings of the medicine wheel and Seven Grandfather Teachings.
To take personal responsibility to increase sensitivity, awareness and implementation of Beendigen’s cultural teachings and organizational practices in both professional conduct and work-related deliverables.
As Privacy Officer, manage all confidential handling of client and employee information as dictated by Privacy Legislation.
To attend Finance, Housing and other required Committee meetings.
To attend to priority housing issues on behalf of the Housing Coordinator when absent.
To constructively participate in staff meetings, seminars and training sessions as required.
To adhere to all policies and procedures as approved by the Board of Directors.
To perform other duties related to the position, as may be assigned by the Executive Director.
To ensure Health and Safety compliance in the workplace by following policies, procedures and best practices and reporting any unsafe environments.
To participate in the on-call rotation.
To attend workshops, seminars and training pertaining to agency’s mandate.
To be prepared to work in conjunction with the philosophy and mandate of the Organization.
To preserve confidentiality of all residents, clients, staff, students, volunteers and agency information.
To represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.
Any other duties as requested by the Executive Director, commensurate with role.

Key Selection Criteria
Required
Accounting Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
Proven work experience as an Accounting or Finance Supervisor.
Strong computer skills, MS Excel in particular (managing spreadsheets, creating charts and using advanced formulas).
Preferred
Experience in a unionized environment.
Certified Payroll Administrator.
Experience working for a non-profit organization.
Experience working in an Indigenous organization.
Ability to speak Ojibway, Oji-Cree or Cree.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A solid understanding of accounting principles and practices.
Superior analytical thinking.
Excellent organizational and sound public relations skills with the ability to communicate effectively.
Possess excellent computer skills and proficient in Simply Accounting and Microsoft Office.
Must be capable of performing office duties such as filing, bank reconciliations, formatting and composing letters, operating various office equipment, photocopier, fax machine, etc.
Proven customer service skills.
Ability to exercise sound, independent judgement and discretion in carrying out the requirements of the job.
Knowledge of filing systems and capable of maintaining financial records.
Ability to enter data accurately and expeditiously.
Proven ability to work with minimum supervision, prioritize and meet deadlines under own initiative.
Working Conditions
Finance Supervisor usually works in an office environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces.
Finance Supervisor works a normal week; Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, but additionally will work evening, weekends, and overtime hours to accommodate activities such as representing the organization at meetings, conferences, workshops and public events.
Additional Information
The Finance Supervisor is based at Anemki Drive; however, all employees may be required to work across other sites from time to time.

Must have a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s license, use of an automobile with appropriate insurance coverage
Must provide a successful Police Criminal Records Check (PCRC)
Must sign an Oath of Confidentiality.
Must have First Aid & CPR/AED Level C Certification
