The School of Education invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty. We are seeking an Indigenous scholar who can support engagement with Indigenous perspectives across our program offerings. The position ideally begins on July 1, 2022, or a mutually convenient time. The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. or academic qualifications judged by the Appointments Committee to be acceptable in its place.
The School of Education approaches education as a force for social transformation, combatting intersectional discrimination and social inequality. We are committed to building greater social equity, responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and to the Association of Canadian Deans of Education’s Accord on Indigenous Education.
We are seeking an Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) scholar. Candidates should address their lived experience and connections to community, land, and language in their application materials.
The ideal candidate will have a track record of research or community-based projects that merge theory and practice, focused at the elementary school and/or secondary school level, with emphasis on one or more of the following areas:
creating respectful and welcoming learning environments that connect and reflect a holistic lifelong
vision of education
incorporating Indigenous ways of learning and teaching in the classroom
teaching and learning in, with, and on land
Indigenous languages and revitalization in education
Indigenous pedagogies
effective teaching methods in student-centred learning at the elementary and/or secondary level
planning for learning in relation to provincial and locally developed curriculum
teaching and learning for equity, diversity, and inclusivity
The successful candidate would teach courses such as:
EDU 205 Education, Colonialism, and De-colonization
EDU 204 Indigenous Education
EDU 313 Teaching Ethics and Religious Culture
EDU 410 Effective Teaching Methods and Assessment II
EDU 419 Interdisciplinary Teaching and Integration of Learning at the Elementary Level
EDU 420 Interdisciplinary Teaching and Integration of Learning at the Secondary Level
The School of Education has a commitment to faculty-led, research-informed, practicum-based learning, and a coherent programmatic approach to teacher education. The ideal candidate will play a key role in putting those commitments into practice and will be supported to participate actively in faculty-led practicum research. Knowledge of the Quebec Education Program or other competency-based curricula is beneficial.
Interested applicants are invited to submit a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, a teaching dossier outlining their teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching experiences, a statement of research agenda, research contributions and methodologies, and the names of two or three referees who may be contacted (please do not send reference letters at this time).
The hiring committee recognizes that scholars have varying career paths and that career interruptions can be part of an academic record. Additionally, in line with SSHRC considerations for merit review of Indigenous research, there is a recognition that reciprocity and co-creation in community-based research is a significant aspect of this work not always captured by conventional scholarship records. Candidates are encouraged to provide any relevant information about their career experience and/or career interruptions.
