Black Ball Ferry Line operates a daily vehicle and passenger ferry service between downtown Victoria, British Columbia, and Port Angeles in Washington state. We have operated our vessel, the MV COHO since December 1959, and can carry over 100 vehicle and up to 1,000 passengers per sailing.
Position Summary
The Ticket Agent is responsible for maintaining the highest level of customer service within a demanding work environment. This position works closely with a team of dockhands and other departments to ensure efficient daily operation. The work hours are seasonal and ideal for a post-secondary student. The position is supervised by the Office Manager.
Position Responsibilities
– Issue ferry tickets using the POS (Point of Sales) system
– Process payment in various methods (i.e., cash, debit/credit, and charge account)
– Answer customer calls regarding reservations, travel information, and other inquiries.
– Inform and assist customers with customs/border requirements
– Provide information on package deals (ferry with accommodation/attraction)
– Book and manage reservations using online reservation system
– Book and mange commercial vehicle reservations
– Work with dockhands to check in vehicle reservations
– Work and communicate with US/CAN Customs
– Follow instructions from US/CAN Customs under special circumstances
– Work with the Sales and Marketing team to manage package, wholesale, and bus bookings
Desired Qualifications
Must be a self-starter and able to work without supervision, while working as a part of the Victoria Operation team. Experience in customer service or hospitality industry is desired.
The position requires excellent verbal communication skills with attention to detail. Knowledge of basic accounting principles and solid math skills are required. Excellent problem-solving skills under demanding environment are required.
Seasonal Work Hours
Winter (Oct – Apr): 8 -16 hours/week *Weekends and Holidays only
Winter Shift Hours: 7:30AM – 4:30PM/8AM – 5:00PM
Spring/Fall (May/June/September): 12 – 32 hours/week
Spring/Fall Shift Hours: 7:30AM – 4:30PM/8:00AM – 5:00 PM/4:00PM – 8:00PM
Summer (Late June – Early September): 32 – 40 hours/week
Summer Shift Hours: 4:30 AM – 12:30 PM/7:30 AM – 4:30 PM/12:30 PM – 8:30 PM
