Job Description:

Core Networking is looking for a capable and enthusiastic Network Security Engineering Specialist. You will be joining a Network Security team that is responsible to develop and operate many aspects of Network Security infrastructure including: Architecture, Design, Engineering, Planning, Testing, Implementation, Automation and Operations.

You will take an active role in the technology lifecycle, from project planning, implementation, and commissioning to routine monitoring, operation and incident resolution. 

We are seeking a highly motivated, and eager, Network Security Engineering Specialist who enjoys the challenge of owning the delivery of a variety of concurrent operational responsibilities and initiatives of varying scale and scope. You will also participate in an on-call schedule with other team members to provide customer and infrastructure support globally. 

Responsibilities:

  • Managing and maintaining network security infrastructure and implementing technical security policies and configurations.
  • Responding to and resolving network access issues related to network security infrastructure, security policy, or remote access.
  • Lifecycle management of technologies including patching, software upgrades, RMAs, and replacing platforms as required.
  • Manage daytime support – Troubleshoot/diagnose escalated incidents and customer issues
  • Test and Perform Code Upgrades on all network security platforms (Palo Alto, Juniper, Cisco etc.)
  • Interact with product vendors for software/hardware issues, bugs, open and manage TAC cases
  • Execute Customer and Operational Requests – Plan and deploy Firewall policy changes, Vulnerability remediation
  • Project Support – Assist Senior team with Planning and Executing of defined work packages in accordance with established objectives
  • Uphold and maintain policies, procedures, standards and technologies to ensure a secure network
  • Maintain security compliance across the firewall infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and document technical issues through to resolution
  • Maintain confidentiality with regards to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network
  • Enhance team knowledge by documenting solutions, creating runbooks, updating team Wiki’s
  • Proactive identification of technical systems or issues, automation opportunities, process improvements, and implementing improvements related to such.
  • Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation
  • Work with co-ops students and interns  

What you bring:

To be considered a suitable candidate, you will require technical capabilities and soft skills.

Your technical background will include a broad experience with various network security technologies.

It would be beneficial to have experience with a combination of more than one of the network security technologies mentioned below.

Your soft skills will include strong and effective communication skills. You will be interfacing with diverse groups of people with varying backgrounds both in and out of IT. 

It is desirable to have a strong customer focused mindset, with a strong desire to help and provide network security services.

We are looking for high performing individuals who have:

  • A strong technical background with various network security technologies, including but not limited to: Network Firewalls, Next Generation Firewalls, VPN, IDS/IPS, Network Access Control, Content Filtering, and their best practice application
  • Understanding of network security concepts, methodologies and practices
  • Firm knowledge of network security (ACL’s, IPsec Tunnels), Firewalls (Security Appliances), AAA and VPN technologies.
  • Proven network troubleshooting experience
  • Knowledge and experience with a broad range of network infrastructure, Public Cloud, routers, switches, and security devices
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage tasks/projects assigned to completion
  • Comfortable working in an environment where management, team members, and customers are geographically distributed.
  • Ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly and with minimal support and guidance
  • Write and maintain documentation, wikis, and compose and present technical presentations
  • Able to handle stressful situations with a level-headed approach and make use of available resources
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Positive Attitude and willingness to learn

Other proficiencies or experience that would be an asset:

  • Experience with JIRA
  • Experience with Confluence
  • Experience working with ITIL Framework change control
  • AWS or Azure cloud experience
  • Palo Alto Certifications
