BNP Paribas Looking for US Tax compliance – Analyst at Montréal, QC Full Time

The position at a glance

The Canada Tax team is responsible for the preparation and submission of Canadian tax compliance. The Canada Tax team also supports the US Tax team on several US tax matters such as corporate income tax returns, tax provisions and special projects. This role specifically relates to the support of the US Tax matters only.

The tax specialist will be responsible to compute the BEAT Tax calculation for US entities. The person will be involved in the quarterly tax provision process, support the preparation of annual tax returns and assists in audit information requests and special projects.

In detail

US BEAT Tax Calculation:

• Master and document all aspects of the BEAT Calculation

• Working with various data providers from US tax entities and the US tax department to collect the necessary information, perform the BEAT calculation, and address any issues surfaced during the process. This calculation needs to be done on a quarterly basis

• Analyze significant figures such as the derivatives payments, transfer pricing flows etc

• Coordinate with US tax team if there are any US tax questions or concerns regarding the relevant tax Regulations

• Prepare and support the US tax department for the various presentation meetings on this specific topic

Support the preparation of the US tax provision and US tax returns :

• BNPP and Fortis US Branches and any other assigned US tax provision;

• Federal, state, and local tax returns and related workpapers

• Extensions and quarterly tax estimates

• U.S. tax accounting

• Audit information / documentation requests

• Identifying process improvements in production, control procedures, and workflow organization to increase the team’s efficiency and effectiveness

• Assist with interest expense tax calculation under US domestic rules

US Tax projects :

• Assist the performance and simulation on US Tax reform

• Support Manager on special projects

• Develop automation to upload tax figures in the internal consolidation software (Matisse).

In addition of the tasks above, other missions or projects can be assigned.

The strengths and skills that will help you succeed

• One to three years of tax and / or accounting experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

• Certified CPA accountant (asset)

• Knowledge and understanding of US tax reporting rules and regulations

• Experience with US Tax Reporting

• Experience using Onesource tax software within Thomson Reuters

• Advanced degree and/or certification, such as a Master in Tax

• Experience within a global financial services company, especially Big 4 Accounting Firm

• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills

• Effective analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal (French/English)

• Keen to learn

• Good analytical skills and sound judgement;

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various teams in a deadline-focused environment

• Manages its time and work efficiently;

• Able to work outside of regular hours during peak periods
