The Geomatics department at BCIT is currently seeking two regular, full-time Assistant Instructors to deliver courses in the Geomatics Engineering Technology Diploma and Degree programs.
BCIT Geomatics offers a two-year diploma program and a four-year degree program. The diploma program is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in the theory and practical application of surveying and mapping. The degree program requires an additional two years of study and builds on this foundation for students wishing to further their careers as land surveyors or Geomatics professionals.
Graduates of both the diploma and the degree find employment in a wide range of fields such as construction, natural resources, legal and engineering surveying in both the public and private sectors. Faculty mentor and motivate students to succeed and are key to the success of the program through excellence in instruction and close ties with the industry.
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be expected to assist in the delivery of courses, particularly field surveying courses. Duties include support work in classrooms and in the field. The successful candidate may also be expected to assist instructors in teaching surveying courses to BCIT’s mining engineering and civil engineering programs. Strong communication skills are required to present relevant course materials for preparing students for an exciting career in surveying and mapping. Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma in Geomatics
- Excellent technical communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two years of current and relevant industry experience
- Proven experience in a broad range of Geomatics disciplines and applications such as Field to finish survey drafting, Field Survey Project Management, Cadastral Surveying, Survey Computations
- Experience working with geospatial software such as Civil3D, AutoCAD and MicroSurvey
- Proficiency with EXCEL program
- Teaching experience at post-secondary level would be an asset

Salary Range
Salary Range: $59,609 – $81,598 per annum
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
