BCIT’s School of Transportation is currently seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Faculty to deliver courses in our Seamanship and Safety programs, with some Nautical Science instruction as required. The ideal candidate will be able to bring industry experience into the classroom, workshop, or boats; develop course and program curriculum; deal with relevant operational and educational issues; and cultivate positive relationships with students.

Our Marine Campus, conveniently located on the water in North Vancouver, is the premier provider of marine training in Canada. Many of our Instructors are Master Mariners with worldwide and local experience, utilizing their extensive skills to deliver a wide variety of courses.
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Classroom instruction to entry-level or Industry Services students, and possibly cadets;
Shop and laboratory instruction and supervision;
Active demonstration and instruction in survival craft and rescue boats;
Instruction for survival and rescue training in the water of our training tank
Instructional counseling, evaluation and preparation;
Administrative responsibilities, including assignments, examination marking, and student evaluation;
Curriculum maintenance and program enhancement;
Administrative processes required to ensure appropriate resources are in place to deliver training;
Other duties directly related to the instruction of trades and vocational programs;
Input into development of modifications to workshop and instructional areas.
Preparing and presenting classroom lectures; classroom management; practical demonstrations, and working collectively with the Nautical Chief Instructors.
Maintaining a commitment to the campus quality assurance standards per ISO 9001:2008 (2015).

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Canadian STCW Watchkeeping Mate Certificate of Competency (unlimited as to voyage and tonnage) or Watchkeeping Mate Certificate, Near Coastal (without tonnage restriction)
Minimum five years with seagoing experience
Experience with a variety of survival craft would be an asset
Experience working on the BC coast would be an asset.
A Degree or Diploma in Nautical Sciences would be an asset.
Physical ability to work with boats, rafts, davits and other lifesaving equipment, and deliver marine emergency duties courses on the ocean and in a training tank
Demonstrated computer skills
Solid communication skills (excellent command of the English language, both written and oral)
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
Prior teaching experience an asset
Completion of an instructional techniques course or Provincial Instructor Diploma Program would be an asset.

Salary Range
Salary Range: $68,375 – $101,563 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment.
