British Columbia Rapid Transit Company Ltd. (BCRTC) maintains and operates two of Metro Vancouver’s three SkyTrain lines. SkyTrain is the first and one of the longest, fully-automated, driverless, rapid transit systems in the world. It boasts an average on-time service performance rating of 95 per cent and moves on average 250,000 passengers per weekday.
Both the SkyTrain lines operate out of BCRTC’s Operations and Maintenance Centre in Burnaby, where more than 900 dedicated staff work in the areas of administration, engineering, elevator and escalator maintenance, field operations, vehicle maintenance, and wayside (station and guideway) maintenance.

Responsibilities
OVERALL PURPOSE
Delivers training courses/programs both technical and non-technical that meet the company goals for the departments and employees across BCRTC. Delivers training to new and existing employees, supervisors, contractors and other stakeholders. Assesses learners’ knowledge, skills, attributes and competencies against standards. Assists in scheduling of trainings and coordinates supporting resources. Supports the design and development of curriculum and contributes to identification of pre-training and post-training requirements. Supports ongoing improvements in the effectiveness of training content, method and delivery. Works as an effective support resource to the BCRTC Training Department.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1.) Delivers training to new and existing employees, supervisors, contractors and other stakeholders, including:
a) delivering curriculum in classroom and field, and/or using Learning Management System, in accordance with the approved course content;
b) delivering training (formal, targeted, intervention) to learners’ in the work environment;
c) developing and conducting remedial classroom training or tutoring as required;
d) providing coaching and additional support to learners who are not meeting expected outcomes or competency requirements;
e) liaising with supervisors and managers to support learners’ ongoing training and assessment in the workplace;
f) ensuring all employees complete course evaluations upon completion of the course, and forwarding these to the Training Manager and Sr. Training Advisor for review and analysis.
2.) Assesses learners’ knowledge, skills, attributes and competencies against standards by:
a) administering oral, written and performance assessments to evaluate against required outcomes to evaluate;
b) learners’ mastery of knowledge, skills and competencies against established standards and required outcomes;
c) communicating learning outcome and assessment expectations, both formative and summative, to learners;
d) providing practical hands-on instruction and effective feedback;
e) identifying learners not achieving competency requirements during training and informing Manager; writing learner performance reports that provide evaluation scores, recommendations for ongoing support and requirements for additional training.
3.) Assists in scheduling of trainings and coordinates supporting resources, including:
a) arranging for permits/clearance to use trains and other equipment for training classes/courses;
b) assisting in scheduling of classrooms and specialized training and preparing and distributing course materials;
c) advising on the revision of training schedules as required;
d) identifying requirements for Subject Matter Expert participation, facilities, equipment and tools for course delivery and SME’s for course delivery.
4.) Supports the design and development of curriculum and contributes to identification of pre-training and post-training requirements by:
a) participating as a training design and development project team member and validating learning objectives;
b) developing assessment criteria and tools including measurable objectives for recognition of prior learning evaluation for new and existing employees;
c) identifying and communicating assessment criteria for successful completion of courses;
d) implementing and/or assisting in all aspects of course delivery;
e) developing and/or assisting in the implementation of on-the-job coaching/mentorship support;
f) recommending required changes to existing training curriculum and courses based on audience feedback.
5.) Supports ongoing improvements in the effectiveness of training content, method and delivery by:
a) participating in pilots of courses delivered by other instructors, providing feedback on the effectiveness of the content, assessment and delivery;
b) conducting walk-through of courses to elicit team feedback and ensure familiarization with course content;
c) introducing new or modified courses to cross-functional teams, modifying the approach to or quality of delivery to earn client approval of the course and its learning outcomes;
d) offering feedback to eLearning Designer or Curriculum Developer for modifications to improve the effectiveness of training;
e) conducting learner’s assessment of course and instruction for improvements in the content and delivery.
6.) Works as an effective support resource to the BCRTC Training Department, including:
a) liaising with the Sr. Training Advisor, Instructional Design on information and feedback/assessment related to curriculum and course development and assessment improvements;
b) working collaboratively with BCRTC Training Department on current and future training goals, initiatives, and planning processes;
c) providing advice to employees about the availability of other training programs depending on their requirement or needs;
d) performing training administrative tasks related to data entry, time sheets, records, preparing reports of training activities and statistics, evaluations, course certificates, monthly reports and ensuring all training department equipment’s are maintained in good order;
e) participating in other curriculum development duties as and when required.
7.) Performs other related duties as assigned, such being items of a minor nature which do not affect the value of the job.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Grade 12 plus completion of the BC Provincial Instructors Diploma Program.
EXPERIENCE
Requires a minimum of four (4) years prior experience in delivering adult training courses in passenger transit environment or related industry with a focus on operational safety and security, technical training, skills assessment, and customer service. An additional period of up to one (1) year is required for familiarization in the range of courses and training offered, company culture, practices and policies.
Shift flexibility is also required to address the training needs of all departments / shift schedules.

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. Work Schedule
40 hours per week.
This position is full-time temporary for twelve (12) months.
Rate of Pay
Wage: $44.89 per hour
The Total Compensation Package includes Extended Health, Transit Pass and enrollment in the Public Service Pension Plan upon eligibility.
