Summary:
Under the direction of the Assistant Supervisor of Maintenance Services or designate, the Custodial Equipment Technician performs a variety of duties related to properly repairing, replacing and maintaining small equipment located in Board facilities; ensuring work is performed in a safe and effective manner, complying with Board and legislative standards and codes; ensuring Board vehicles, equipment and tools are properly maintained; performing other related duties to ensure that properties, facilities, and equipment are properly maintained.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operates, maintains, and repairs small equipment. This includes floor buffers, carpet cleaning machines, vacuums, auto scrubbers, lawn tractors, snow blowers, lawn mowers, etc.
Ensures small equipment are properly maintained
Ensures work performed in Board buildings is completed in a safe and effective manner
Ensures compliance with Board/Legislative standards and codes
Ensures Board vehicle and tools are properly maintained
Performs other related activities such as undertaking any other tasks, not necessarily related to this trade, as required by the supervisor, in order to ensure prompt situational responses and cross-trade cooperation, e.g., performing minor welding.
Skills and Knowledge:
Knowledge of, and continual upgrading of relevant codes and legislation (Acts and Regulations), new materials, equipment, products, methods and procedures. Interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with co-workers, principals, site supervisors and other Board personnel to provide information and advice on equipment purchases; listening skills required to understand explanations of problems and how equipment is functioning, etc.; initiative and judgement to make decisions such as methods of repair and equipment/supplies needed, prioritizing work orders; organization skills to prioritize work and reschedule activities due to emergency calls. Ability to use a variety of tools, e.g., drill, welding equipment, air powered tools, reciprocating saws, grinders and voltage meter. Ability to report code violations, complete forms such daily logs and work order sheets, calculate formulae for PSI for hydraulics and material costing. Ability to use electronic mail system and computer maintenance management system and to work with minimum supervision.
Education and Experience:
This knowledge would normally be obtained through completion of secondary school diploma, Small Engine Trades Certificate, and 5 years experience repairing small electrical equipment, which includes 3 years in industrial or commercial maintenance. Valid class G driver’s license, or equivalent.
The incumbent must keep all required licenses current and take approved training courses as required
