The Starbelly Group is an upscale yet casual, family friendly, restaurant group. We are an innovative and evolving group focusing on locally sourced, made in house food, YYC brewed craft beer, and playful + fun crafted cocktails. We pride ourselves in bringing a modern authenticity, to both the menu offerings, and the dining rooms as well.
We are on the hunt for a Head Chef to join the team at Calavera Cantina. This newest addition to the Starbelly Group, is all about vibe and flavour. The menu features approachable western favourites with a latin twist. The service model, and the room decor, also add to this fun, vibrant, concept. We are proud to be local, and support local. The ideal candidate will be passionate about execution, and putting up the best plate every time. People development and a strong work routine is an expectation, in order to drive a consistent kitchen culture.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee day-to-day operations
- Control budgets and optimize expenses.
- Set policies and procedures
- Oversee hiring and training of new prep and line cooks
- Develop a team that is driven to continuously be passionate about food, plating, and execution
- Budget writing with the General Manager
- Evaluate and improve kitchen operations and performance
- Drive consistent food cost in line with period budgets
- Ensure schedule is reflective of sales forecasts and supports the budgeted labour cost
- Prepare regular reports for Culinary Operations Manager
- Develop and uphold clear health and safety protocols that are in line with AHS requirements
- Optimize scheduling to support execution and growth
- Develop a people pipeline that supports the attraction of high level talent
- Weekly inventory reporting.
- Ensure service standards and execution are aligned with the Starbelly Group standard
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
- Handles stress and pressure well
- An understanding of inventory systems and procedures
- Strong development and leadership skills
- Ability to teach knife skills, butchery, and proper cooking techniques
- Natural ability to lead people
- Passionate about entrepreneurship, and positive kitchen environments
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Displays resourcefulness, and clear strategy through the decision making process. Likes to think outside the box

Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
