The CBE understands the future of work is flexible. In this role, you are eligible to participate in a flexible work program that allows you to work remotely for up to three days a week. A minimum of two days must be in the office. At certain times, you maybe be required to work in the office more then 2 days per week based on operational requirements.
The purpose of this position is to provide senior leadership and direction to the Corporate Finance Department in the Corporate Finance and Supply Chain Services Service Unit at the Calgary Board of Education (CBE). The Director’s role has three major dimensions: (a) that of head of the Corporate Finance Department, with attendant leadership responsibilities; (b) that of a senior functional leader providing functional direction and guidance to all financial staff within the Calgary Board of Education (CBE); and (c) that of a senior member of staff advising and assisting the Superintendent’s Team and the Board of Trustees in the areas of financial planning; financial management and internal control; and stewardship of assets.
As the senior financial and fiscal advisor to the CBE this position is responsible for the financial accountability framework and coordinates and facilitates the delivery of corporate financial services. The position is responsible for the establishment of financial management and internal control systems; risk identification and management strategies within an accountability framework to ensure budgets, forecasts and fiscal plans are managed effectively within a highly complex and decentralized organizational structure to enable the delivery and successful achievement of the stated results of the CBE. The position is responsible for providing Superintendent’s Team with comprehensive strategic advice and recommendations with regard to complex financial challenges. This position establishes overall short term and long term departmental objectives, directions, goals, policies and procedures for treasury management, including investment and debt management; corporate revenue and fee collection; corporate financial planning, analysis and reporting; corporate financial systems; and performance management. In addition, the position is responsible for monitoring compliance with legislation and reporting as required, developing and maintaining financial policies; internal controls and procedures; and the provision of accounting directives and/or assistance to schools and departments. All decentralized financial positions within the CBE receive direction and functional support from this position. Oversees a budget in excess of $1 billion and is directly responsible for a department consisting of 26 FTE’s and had an operating budget of $4,100,000.
