Overall Accountability
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the accounting and reporting of the Construction and Maintenance and Information Technology departments in Calgary Catholic. As well, reporting to Alberta Infrastructure on Modular Classroom Program projects. Additional responsibilities include managing the Asset Management module, managing the General Ledger software modules related to assets and the Modular Classroom Program projects, budgeting, financial analysis, accounting, monitoring and reporting on expenditures relative to the assigned portfolio.
Specific Accountabilities
Prepares quarterly financial projections (expenditures) and variance analysis for Construction and Maintenance and Information Technology departments and related expenditures for inclusion in quarterly projections for the Board of Trustees.
Prepares and analyzes information for monthly and annual financial reporting.
Assists Construction and Maintenance departments and Information Technology departments in the preparation of budgets and monitoring expenditures.
Prepares salary and benefit budgets for custodial staff.
Interprets financial results and providing ad hoc financial analysis to the Construction and Maintenance and Information Technology departments for decision making purposes.
Manages the Asset Management module, General Ledger software modules related to assets and the Modular Classroom Program projects for the PeopleSoft Financial System and its interface with facilities software; involves troubleshooting system issues, ensuring integrity of the interfaces and implementing changes due to changing requirements.
Responsible for all aspects of financial accounting and monitoring of Modular Classroom Program projects in Calgary Catholic; includes accuracy and completeness of expenditures and revenues, capitalization decisions, monitoring to budget, and all Alberta Education financial reporting (including final cost submissions) related to these projects.
Seeks clarity with the Government of Alberta regarding funding and expenditures; addresses information requests from external auditors regarding expenditures.
Provide accounting advice on accounting policies and practices specific to the Construction and Maintenance and Information Technology departments.
Coordinates periodic inventory counts of furniture, equipment and vehicles to fulfill the asset stewardship function.
Qualifications
Degree in accounting
Three (3) to five (5) years’ related experience
Experience with integrated financial systems, preferably PeopleSoft
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Chartered Professional Accountant designation
Excellent analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills
