Job Summary

The Project Accountant desires to learn and be involved in project accounting and reporting, accounts payable processing as well as development of internal control policies and procedures. The Project Accountant is a member of the accounting team and will be expected to take instructions from and support senior members of the operational accounting team. The right individual will have the opportunity to grow with our company with the possibility of evolving into a more senior role as the needs of the company expand.

The position is best suited for someone who is experienced in construction, well-organized who enjoys a variety of responsibilities ranging from compiling project invoices and project reporting to managing project bank accounts and resolving client and vendor inquiries. This person takes pride as that key employee whom everyone looks to actively problem solve and keeps critical processes moving forward. This person is a strong communicator and adaptable to the evolving needs of a high growth organization.

Responsibilities

• Entering and approving project AP invoices
• Preparing monthly job reporting packages
• Generating payment runs
• Generating & entry of employee timecards into accounting software
• Project bank reconciliations
• Handling vendor inquiries and statement review
• Liaise with onsite construction teams for coordination of various workflows
• Coordinating deliveries for project accounting items
• Produce monthly billing for Contract and T&M work with appropriate documentation
• Ensuring project AP is processed in accordance with approval and payment timelines
• Timely communication with Client Developers to meet and exceed our contractual commitments
• Ad hoc reporting for internal and external Client Developers as needed
• Prepare T5018s for annual filing
• Filing and general accounting administrative tasks as required
• Documentation and SOP review for best practice.

Position Requirements:

• Post-secondary education in accounting with 2-3 years accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Working knowledge of accounting processes and experience in a high-volume accounting environment; prior experience in an Accounts Payable role
• Strong proficiency with MS Office, including Word and Excel
• Effective communication skills (oral and written) and demonstrated excellent customer service abilities
• Strong Organizational Skills – ability to prioritize tasks while still maintaining a high level of accuracy.
• Previous experience as a project accountant and/or in the construction industry an asset
• Experience with Procore & Acumatica software would be considered an asset
