We are looking for an enthusiastic and nurturing educator who has a passion for nature,
agriculture and child development to co-lead our Kindergarten program (for students ages 4-6
years old). Our Program follows the Forest School philosophy and is play-based, emergent, inquiry-based, child-led and primarily outdoors. Visit our website for more information about our programs and philosophy: https://farmandforestschool.ca/
Schedule: Full-time (Mondays to Fridays) 8:00am-4:00pm, March 21 until June 17, 2022 (and potential for
extension into future school years), with training prior to start date; plus optional camp counsellor position for July and August
Hourly rate: $19.00 – $20.00 (plus discounts for staff family members attending our Camps or Forest School programs)
Applicants must have at least one of the following:
- Registered Early Childhood Educator qualifications (in Good Standing)
- Ontario Certified Teaching qualifications (in Good Standing)
- Forest School Practitioner through the Child and Nature Alliance of Canada
- Relevant Outdoor Education experience
Responsibilities:
- Prepare the daily learning materials, programs and areas as necessary, with co-educator
- Ensure the safety of all participants at all times, including but not limited to: forest play, water play,
farm activities/tasks
- Document observations of each child’s interests and progress
- Assist in risk assessments as needed, and review each season
- Responsible for program tools and equipment as provided. This includes the care, maintenance,
restocking and storing of equipment appropriately at all times.
- Communicate with parents and families in an effective and timely manner, regarding the program and
the progress of their child
General Qualifications:
- Experience working with children, ages 4-6 (in an outdoor setting is an asset)
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and
communicate with families, staff and volunteers
- Works well in a team environment
- Physical ability to be active and on your feet most of the day and to lift up to 20kg (44lbs)
- An enthusiasm for working outdoors in all weather conditions (excluding extreme conditions, i.e.
thunderstorms)
- Up-to-date First Aid and CPR (level B or C) certificate
- Interest in learning or improving basic outdoor skills (such as fire building, shelter making, knots)
- Understanding of the benefits of risk management
- Familiarity with the Forest and Nature School model, as defined by Forest School Canada
- An understanding of the adult role in child-led learning
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check
- Up-to-date immunization record
