About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular part-time Laboratory Assistant – Distribution to join our dynamic Supply Chain Operations East team.
The work of a Laboratory Assistant is integral to Canadian Blood Services role as Canada’s Lifeline. In this role, you will perform a variety of duties related to the production of components from donations received from blood donors and in the distribution of these and other related products to the customers of the Canadian Blood Services.
Formula for success:
Receive orders, select, issue, dispatch and pack blood, blood components and fractionation products to hospitals according to Standard Operating Procedures
Prepare shipment of units to fractionation plant
May be assigned to operate a computer terminal and other automated equipment
Maintains adequate stock of supplies and prepares weekly supply orders
Performs maintenance of equipment
End labels and stores products
Observes laboratory hygiene and safety regulations and precautions
Performs other department related tasks and duties as assigned
Desired education and skills
One year laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
Experience in a regulated, manufacturing environment an asset
Secondary school diploma
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including legible handwriting
Superior multi-tasking skills required
Ability to work with others effectively in a team environment
Ability to work independently and follow instructions precisely
Detail-oriented and capable of working in a highly regulated environment
Manual dexterity
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
Must be available to work variable shifts – days, evenings, nights and weekends
Successful clearance of criminal records and employment verification checks in accordance with the compliance criteria for Trustworthiness and Reliability Verification as legislated by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
