Canadian Medical Protective Association Looking for Portfolio Accounting Administrator at Ottawa, ON Full Time

CONTRIBUTING TO THE CMPA

The Finance department supports the CMPA’s mission and goals by safeguarding the Association’s assets through accurate and timely recording and stewardship of financial transactions. The Portfolio Accounting and Reporting team acts as the back office bridging the Association’s internal Investment department with the Finance department. The CMPA manages a $6 billion portfolio deployed across traditional and alternative strategies including a significant allocation to private assets and hedge funds.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Manager, Portfolio Accounting & Reporting, and working closely with the Financial & Business Analysts, the Portfolio Accounting Administrator assists with the investment accounting functions for the entire portfolio of assets. These assets include both publicly-traded and privately held securities. This position is ideally suited for an individual with a keen interest in investments as well as a basic knowledge of day-to-day accounting operations.

POSITION ACTIVITIES

• Preparation of journal entries for transactions relating to both the public and private assets
• Preparation of daily cash flow projections
• Enter weekly performance estimates for hedge funds and other internally-managed mandates
• Enter electronic trade tickets and money movement instructions into the custodian’s system
• Liaise with the custodian as needed
• Assist in the monthly reconciliation of accounting positions and valuation of privately-held securities
• Assist in the preparation of audit working papers
• Other ad hoc duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Three year diploma or certificate in Accounting, Finance, or Business required
• Minimum four years of experience in an accounting and/or finance position; a combination of education and relevant experience will be considered
• Previous experience in data extraction, compilation, manipulation, and reporting
• Knowledge of investments, hedge funds, and the role of the custodian would be an asset
• Experience working with accounting system applications
• Experience working with high volumes of transactions

• Advanced computer skills: specifically Excel and database applications
• Work independently and within a team environment and can prioritize workload
• Strong verbal and written communication skills (in English)
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and diplomacy
• Ability to use sound judgement and act in a professional manner
• Strong interpersonal communication skills

• Salary Range: $48,968 to $68,555 annually – classified as level 6
• Selected candidates will be required to complete a skills assessment
• Location: Hybrid – Primary Remote Job. You can work from a home-based office the majority of time, with regular on-site presence at the CMPA office (up to 1-2 days per week). If you prefer to work in an office setting as your primary workspace, you can choose to work out of the CMPA’s office located in Ottawa, Ontario near the beautiful Dow’s Lake
