PURPOSE OF POSITION:
CP Rail requires technical analyst (GIS) to deliver geospatial data that supports CP’s high standards of accountability in the deployment and function of a train safety overlay system known as Positive Train Control (PTC) in a fast paced, technically strong team. Knowledge in using the latest GIS technology with emphasis on ESRI suite of tools, combined with solid understanding of Oracle, SQL, RDBMS, ESRI SDE, FME, Python, XML, PL/SQL. Experience dealing with LiDAR and/or Trimble GPS survey data sets, Field data capturing and coordination will be considered an asset. Technical competency will be accompanied with preference for working in a small team environment focused on delivering tangible results to tight timelines as part of major capital projects with a strong rail operations focus.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Documenting, analyzing and updating all process developed to support data acquisition, manipulation and storage. Make proposals and enhancements through everyday interaction with existing processes and data.
Process and clean RTK Survey Data, including maintaining a Trimble Data Collection Dictionary, to ensure highly accurate and accountable integration with corporate databases
Understand, apply, and verify railway operational business standards to geospatial track data processing using an industry standard data model
Coordinate diverse groups who contribute to business requirements and build consensus for requirements across the various user groups
Create and execute a work plan for business analysis activities. Liaise with greater project team in order to produce best quality data products on time and budget.
Review diagrams and models (use case, activity diagram, business process models, etc.) and clearly document functional requirements and business rules to describe what the system, process, or product/service must do in order to fulfill the business and user requirements.
As a member of PTC Track data team work on enhancing existing procedures of data capture, attribution, building topology and subsequent data manipulation.
Exceptional understanding and handling of day to day operational data change requests (Data Change Management) management procedures.
Data validation of GIS feature class attribute data in Oracle
Helping junior staff as well as promoting GIS value among peers and employees of CP Rail
Maintenance of existing FME scripts that load geospatial data into Oracle or out to SQL server in order to be consumed by custom Wabtrax software.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate from Geomatics Engineering program, Applied GIS program or combination of education and experience
Degree or equivalent in Engineering or Computer Science preferred
Fundamental knowledge of railway operations and processes an asset
Strong GIS skills using ESRI tool set (Catalog ,Toolbox, SDE and extensions)
Knowledge of Oracle RDBMS, Microsoft SQL Server
Experience with scripting languages, including python and SQL.
Experience with .net and java an asset
Experience with GIS implementation and system design
Trimble GPS, Pathfinder and Terra Sync expert knowledge
Geodatabases(multiuser and personal) and Data modeling
Ability to manage conflict and stakeholder interests
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Team player, skilled in working in a highly collaborative manner.
