PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
As the Supervisor Rail Testing you will pilot ultrasonic test equipment. Supervise rail flaw detector cars over their region, providing day to day on site instruction to contractors and regional Engineering Services front line employees and provide accurate assessments of short term rail testing requirements.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Pilot the RFD nonstop trucks across BC and AB
Maintain “Gateway” approach to rail testing and scheduling. Responsible for daily contact with the Roadmaster regarding ways to keep RFD equipment on schedule
Co-ordinates the operation of the Rail Flaw equipment and rail replacement crew, if required
Manage the daily operation of the contracted rail flaw detection equipment. Responsibility may include obtaining required track protection during testing, deadhead movements or arranging for Conductor Pilots. Includes the supervision of contracted crews required to perform the function with respect to safety, quality of work and efficiency of operation
Recommend testing guidelines, frequency and equipment requirements necessary to provide cost effective rail management adhering to company and governmental standards and ensure the safe passage of trains in compliance with the SPC and Red Book by issuing the appropriate protective slow orders
Ensure all defects that are reported are marked in the field timely and checks that regional Engineering personnel are properly recording all rail failures
Oversee daily cost control for the rail flaw detection program and provide advice for the development of rail flaw detection contracts and advice to the award of contracts
Required to be on call on a regular basis outside of normal business hours and workdays
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Driver’s license
Ability to spend 2 weeks in AB/2 weeks in BC
Trained in Rail Flaw Ultrasonic testing
Trained in Rail Flaw investigation techniques
Network view and understanding of network operations
Instrumentation and testing

Ability to persuade for the overall betterment of the railway in situations where individual objectives may conflict

Management Conductor Program:
