Position Summary
CSI Pacific is in search of a full-time Senior Accountant to oversee all financial processes for CSI Pacific and ensure timely and relevant monitoring and reporting of the Institute’s overall financial performance. This includes overseeing the full accounting process, including the monthly accounting cycle, budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and timely journal entries. The Senior Accountant is also responsible for leading the annual audit and ensuring the Institute completes all of its statutory filings, ensuring business policies, accounting standards, and funding obligations are met. This position also works closely with the CEO and the Senior Business Development Advisor to determine the financial strategy and plan for CSI Pacific’s success.
This position is a hybrid role. The successful candidate will be expected to go onsite regularly in Vancouver, Whistler, and/or Victoria with the opportunity to work remotely part of the time.
Position Responsibilities:
Manage Accounts Payable
Ensure timely payments of invoices for semi-monthly cheque runs
Maintain proper payment records for audit records
Supplier relation management
Manage Accounts Receivable
Ensure invoices are generated in a timely manner to support cash flow needs
Ensure all funding from agreements is received
Collections/follow ups
AR analysis/risk assessment; ADA/bad debts
Journal entries, reconciliations, and GL management, asset capitalizations, revenue recognitions/deferral, prepaid expenses, and accruals/reversals
Financial systems development/improvements and implementations
Provide financial services to external clients in similar role (CSI Pacific fee for services), if required
Perform monthly account reconciliations of various bank accounts
E-commerce reconciliation
Bank deposits
Cash and investment management
Prepare internal and external financial reporting and analysis
Fund allocations – revenues/expenses (operating and restricted)
Budgeting/Forecasting, budget vs. actual monitoring and recommendations
Ad hoc assigned tasks for Finance & Audit Committee, Board of Directors, and Strategy Group
Review and approve payroll prior to submission to provider as well as being the main contact with the Payroll provider.
Annual and interim reporting to funding partners
Liaise with auditors and assist with requests
Prepare reports and working files for audit
Prepare annual audited financial statements and disclosure notes
Develop & manage Finance budget and oversee the approval of all expense claims for Finance
Attend Leads, Strategy Group and Board meetings as required
Report upon discipline area activities and strategic objectives
Assist with organizational strategic planning
Implement discipline-specific work plans and requests
Facilitate communication and collaboration within and between discipline areas
Collaborate with the CEO and Senior Business Development Advisor to develop plans for staffing, resource allocation, and facility support
The ideal candidate would have:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field
Chartered Professional Accountant designation
Minimum 5 years of related experience, with at least 2 years directly managing others
Experience with non-profit societies is an asset
Experience with restricted fund accounting is an asset
Demonstrated knowledge of accepted accounting rules, practices, tax regulations, and reporting requirements
Advanced proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheet programs and applications
Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret goals, objectives, and policies
Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
Previous experience with QuickBooks and Payworks is an asset
Knowledge of the Canadian sport system and/or government funding processes is an asset
English-French bilingualism is an asset
