Canadian Tire Corporation Looking for Project Manager, Design & Construction at Calgary, Alberta, Canada Full Time

The position of Project Manager reports to the Director, Construction. Working within a high energy team, this is a high-profile role responsible to lead, motivate, and support a team of external consultants and general contractors in all aspects of design, construction while ensuring the team delivers a high level of customer service to internal and external stakeholders/clients. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the projects meet metrics associated with project budget, design, schedule, safety, quality, coordination, and all due diligence regarding the construction of new projects, expansions, re-developments, renovations, and other development programs. The position deals with constantly changing priorities, complex approval processes and the intricacies of the design and construction industry at large.

Implementation of all individual elements of high-profile building development initiatives, including design, construction, budget control, operational requirements, responsible for ensuring project management framework and promoting project management best practices.

• Support the Real Estate and Development team in the site acquisition, site layout/design, and municipal approval phase of projects
• Evaluate sites and/or existing structures to determine their suitability, complete a design proposal and prepare budget cost estimate for use in the internal approval process
• Coordinate and analyze geotechnical, environmental and sustainability due diligence in terms of budget estimates and overall project risk
• Responsible for the design of all aspects of the project, including site layout, building layout, and the construction of same with the needs of internal/external stakeholders, including Tenants while ensuring compliance with project metrics and corporate design standards with emphasis on high value and functionality.
• Support Leasing team with Lease document review specifically focusing on Landlord/Tenant scope of work, schedule and commitment dates
• Managing the planning and scheduling functions which provide for the development of an overall project schedule, the establishment of project milestone dates
• Responsible for the hiring of all consultants/engineers required to provide design drawings, working drawings and specifications for the project
• Responsible for the procurement of all approvals/permits from the authorities having jurisdiction
• Prepare tender package and invite contractors, review and analyze bid submissions with the estimator group, issue letter of award and prepare contracts
• Make site visits and retain outside resources when appropriate to manage the project, schedule, safety, budget and quality of workmanship
• Formulate and present overview on project status, debrief and update senior management and stakeholders on all aspects of a project
• Have the ability to read, interpret, analyze and forecast a project’s cost report and determine the status of the job in terms of schedule and costing
• Project Close-out, including reporting, reduction, and release of letters of credits

What You’ll Bring

• Minimum 5 years experience of project management experience with retail/commercial and industrial construction experience.
• Post-Secondary degree or diploma in Architecture, Engineering or Project Management.
• The ability to travel 2-3 days per week as per business needs ; however, may require additional time beyond normal working hours
• Must have a valid drivers license and should have access to a vehicle.
• Strong financial skills
• Superior interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence,) skills essential.
• Expert level of design and construction industry knowledge and experience is essential.
• Excellent time management skills, ability to manage deliverables, and balancing time-sensitive deadlines.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, negotiation, listening, written and verbal communication skills.
• Computer proficiency in Project Management software, Microsoft Office, Excel, and project scheduling tools.
