WILD Outside Remote Leadership Specialist

Position Overview:

In support of the youth education program, WILD Outside, CWF is hiring Remote Leadership Specialists to work in small communities across Canada and will be responsible for helping to manage volunteers in their region (must reside within region listed above). This program combines outdoor experience with service learning and leadership development for youth ages 15–18 across Canada. Remote Leadership Specialists play an important role as they work to recruit and support local volunteers and leaders in facilitating a variety of experiential activities for youth in small communities across Canada. These activities help aid in the awareness, education, and connection between youth, the outdoors, and their community as it pertains to sustainability and conservation. This is a remote work-from-home opportunity that requires the ideal candidate to be a self-starter. This role focuses on targeting remote/rural communities and will be part of the larger program team that is based out of larger cities across Canada. Remote Leadership Specialists will work under the support and guidance of program management, and will frequently collaborate with the Education, Finance, Marketing, IT, and Human Resources departments. Supporting the Management team the Remote Youth Leadership Specialist will:

• Help to identify priority communities.
• Recruit, train and support volunteer team leaders and adult volunteers.
• Coordinate and facilitate programing in their assigned communities and maintain a network of partners to support delivery of the program.
• Assist with the recruitment of volunteers, youth and community partners wishing to participate in the program.
• Ensure that program participants are connected with CWF’s programming and programming connected with other program partners.
• Perform community outreach.
• Facilitate program activities and track results of the delivery of the program in your assigned communities/region.
• Manage, maintain, and evaluate programs and activities.
• File all relevant paperwork and data.
• Seek out potential local and provincial funding sources for the program.
• Contribute as a member of a youth service and conservation communities of practice.

Qualifications/Experience:

Required:

• Experience (professional or volunteer) in the development and oversight of experiential education programming for youth.
• Relevant Diploma’s, Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience in either education/youth work, social work, community development, management or outdoor recreation, environment/conservation.
• Employee must have a valid driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle and must be legally able to rent a vehicle.
• First Aid – Standard First Aid or higher. (Can be obtained later)
• Mental Health First Aid (Can be obtained later)
• Group facilitation/management skills and public speaking abilities.
• Basic computer program knowledge (Microsoft suite) and data entry skills necessary. Ability to learn new programs required.

Assets:

• Bilingual (English/French) written & oral preferred, or bilingual English with any other language.
• Some experience (personal, professional, or volunteer) in the outdoors, outdoor recreation, coaching, camp counselling and community service groups.
• Experience working with underrepresented youth; youth with disabilities, mental health concerns, from indigenous communities and various socio-economic situations.
• Some experience in event planning, project management/organization, and sales.
• Good writing and research skills.

Core Duties

Program Supports

• Recruit and train the volunteer team leaders and adult volunteers in remote communities to run the program, with support from Human Resources.
• Help to recruit program participants and adult volunteers in local communities to reflect Canada’s diversity.
• Research and liaise with local community and youth groups with interest in rural and remote areas of Canada who may be interested in running the program.
• Oversee the development and maintenance of relationships with key sector partners.
• Supervise and facilitate program participants, and adult volunteers assigned to them.
• Develop and encourage leadership opportunities for participants.
• Ensure that risk management procedures are being followed in program groups.
• Participate in risk management reviews and evaluate programs/activities regularly to adapt as needed.
• Ensure that all CWF and partner policies and procedures are adhered to.
• Facilitate, monitor, anticipate problems and track results of the planning progress and delivery of the program.
• Purchase supplies or services from outside vendors, such as educational products and services with approval from education management.
• Travel to assigned programs for on-site support and facilitation of delivery.
• Co-create program materials and resources for your city programs.
• Use experiential education methods in program delivery.
• Coordinate ‘to do’ lists, identify issues and organize tasks with program groups.
• Contribute to internal updates, reports, and prepare informational spreadsheets.
• Keep up with frequent data entry and statistics reporting on programming.
• Keep inventories up-to-date and maintain equipment in communities assigned to you.
• Maintain local participant subsidy supports as needed.
• Maintain a presence in the communities assigned to you through school and community presentations, booths, fairs/festivals, conferences, and other outreach opportunities.
• May include assisting with on-site media relations.
• May include assisting remote volunteer leaders to deliver programming.

Other/General

• Tracking arrangements, budget items and results measurable.
• General oversight of best practice and industry trends in youth engagement.
• Support program Communications & Marketing Plan.
• Keep up with CWF programs, polices and procedures.
• Maintain good lines of communications with various audiences.
• Maintain regular communication with CWF/program supervisors, colleagues and partners.
• Work as part of small and large teams. Attend appropriate team meetings (in person and remote).
• Represent the best of CWF and program brand including the wearing of corporate dress/professional standards as required.
• Participate in and contribute to national event and program planning committees.
• Research in city/province/region opportunities for collaboration with possible partners.
• Research in city/province/region for possible funding opportunities.
• Participate in professional development opportunities for continued personal growth.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Profile

• Full-time, fixed-term position until March 31, 2024 pending funding approval.
• Typically working 37.5 hours per week, overtime may be required.
• Flexible schedule, including ability to travel to both rural and urban areas, and work nights and weekends as needed.
• Location: This is a work from home position with frequent work outdoors & in the local community.
• Requires a recent Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check clear of convictions (can be obtained later)
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to work as part of a small local in-person team and large virtual team and under direct supervision.
• Be able to work from the community, and at home as required. Home based work environments.
