The Department of Social Development is seeking social workers who are eager to lead and provide a clinical lens to improve programs for children, youth and families. As part of the Child and Youth Well-Being Branch you will work collaboratively with zone staff, other program areas, government departments, stakeholders, community partners and those who do or have received services from Social Development. Although program development is led from our central office Fredericton location, Telework options are supported.
Program Consultants are responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring and improving strength-based programs and services to help protect and promote the safety and wellbeing of children, youth, and young adults. Through a clinical lens, as a social worker, you will utilize the best tools and theories built on building relationships to plan, design, evaluate, monitor and improve programs and services, as well as policies and practices to help develop a system where children, youth, young adults and their families can thrive.

As a provincial consultant you will be partnering in the development of interventions and models to empower and strengthen families while supporting resiliency for children, youth and young adults. Advancing clinical and collaborative practice while partnering with family and community will be a high priority.
Responsibilities include;
- Supporting kinship as a principle while also exploring other type of out-of-home care options for children/youth.
- Providing provincial support and direction for individuals with enhanced needs.
- Working in program areas related to child/youth protection, childcare, adoption, youth transitioning to adulthood and/or other programs within the branch. Providing clinical advice, subject matter expertise and support to staff at Central Office and in the Zones on program guidelines, procedures, policies, Principles of Practice, standards and the newly proclaimed Child and Youth Well-Being Act.
- Clinical Support/Direction, Program Design and Development, Strategic Advice and Decision Support, Strategic Initiatives and Continuous Improvement Activities and Strong Partner/Stakeholder Relations.
Being aware of service and research developments in other jurisdictions and in the professional literature related to collaborative approaches and emerging best practices that support the best outcomes for children, youth and young adults. Other duties may be assigned as necessary as programs evolve to align with the Child and Youth Well-Being Act along with the strategic direction of the program area.
Essential Qualifications
Pay-Band 6 A Master’s degree in Social Work with a minimum of four (4) years in Child and Youth Well Being programs, services, child protection / child welfare or related work experience OR a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a minimum of six (6) years in Child and Youth Well Being programs, services, child protection / child welfare or related work experience.
In order to be appointed, candidates must be actively registered with the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers.
Written and spoken competence in English and French is required for some positions, while other positions require written and spoken competence in English. Please state your language capability.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Working evenings, weekends, and variable hours. Applicants must have their own means of transportation as this position offers services to families in various locations of the province and requires some travel within the province and occasional travel outside the province
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates who demonstrate one or more of the following asset qualifications:
- Experience in Child and youth Well-Being services or programs.
- Experience analyzing and interpreting data.
- Experience in innovative thinking and capacity to work independently.
Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

Salary: PB 6 – $73,996 to $98,436 per annum
