Description
Work at CBC/Radio-Canada
At CBC/Radio-Canada, we create content that informs, entertains and connects Canadians on multiple platforms. Our successes and accomplishments are driven by embodying and upholding values, which include creativity, integrity, inclusiveness and relevance.
Do you think you have the ability and drive to keep up with this exciting, ever-changing industry? Whether it be in front of the camera, on air, online or behind the scenes, you would be joining a team that thrives on making connections and telling stories that are important to Canadians.
Your role
CBC is looking for a Scheduling Specialist to join our Scheduling & Content Planning team. We work to connect audiences with the TV shows they love, and this role will contribute by building the linear and CBC Gem Platforms schedules including all metadata for our content slate. The Scheduling Specialist will work with the Scheduling management team and collaborate with Product teams, Communication teams, Business & Rights, Programming and Media Presentation. S/he must be able to perform in an ever-changing environment and contribute to timely solutions. The successful candidate will be a results-driven, detail-oriented problem solver, who can work independently and who thrives in a positive team environment.
While work must conform to CBC standard operating and administrative procedures, there is both opportunity and a requirement for independent judgment, analysis and decision-making within sets of complex parameters. Work is subject only to general review and there may be a requirement to coordinate the work of others.
This is a hybrid role with the requirement to work in the office 1-2 days a week (with the potential to increase in future).
Please note that this is a temporary position for approximately 6 mo.
What’s in it for you:
A hybrid work environment with a flexible work schedule, allowing you to prioritize yourself, your family and your work;
Meaningful work that has a direct impact on one of Canada’s largest cultural institutions;
Competitive benefits;
A dynamic work environment that prioritizes innovation, collaboration, creativity and growth;
A strong commitment to learning and development, which includes a robust in house course offering and formal mentorship and skills development programs;
Opportunities to become a member of CBC’s Employee Resource Groups.
Key Tasks
Responsible for entering and maintaining daily/seasonal schedules including daily changes into content management systems (i.e.: On Air, Program Guide, SYNPS) for various platforms (i.e.: CBC TV, Documentary Channel, News Network, GEM)
Responsible for entering and maintaining metadata into system repositories
Issue program listings to BDU’s
Coordinate with several departments to source relevant metadata
Communicate and facilitate last minute scheduling changes
Ensure video playback meets accessibility guidelines
Coordinate the implementation of special programming initiatives
Perform quality checks to ensure accuracy of scheduling and metadata entries
Uses knowledge in scheduling linear or digital properties to provide expertise and make recommendations within the framework of CBC’s mandate and regulatory requirements
Knowledge of CBC’s programming, linear and digital platforms helpful but not required.
Collaborate with peers in Media Presentation, Network Programming and Product teams to ensure technical issues are effectively resolved
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
Post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent experience
Minimum of three years’ experience in an environment with exposure to television broadcasting, scheduling, and/or digital platforms
Excellent communication skills including writing, verbal and listening
Ability to handle multiple priorities and quick decision making skills under pressure
Ability to exercise judgment and work independently, taking initiative when required
Ability to solve technical problems
Experience with digital workflows and/or broadcast operations
Experienced relationship builder and self-starter
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly related to numbers.
Strong planning, analytical, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills
Ability to multi-task when required; establish priorities amongst conflicting priorities, and work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
Experience with linear and/or digital scheduling.
Familiarity with closed captioning and described video
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
