Why is this role important?
As a mobile Lead Developer, you will be supporting the News, Sports and Listen mobile applications. You will have expertise in iOS development, but will consult and collaborate with other Lead Developers and our Solution Architect for Mobile Technology to support mobile development work across products, platforms, and teams.
You will play an important role in leading the development process within a product team. This includes supporting and continuing to shape our technical design, quality management, and review practices, and well as optimizing the delivery and release pipelines that get our mobile apps to our global audience. Time to market; happy users; reliable, performant and resilient mobile applications are some of the reasons why we are looking for your help in building our engineering practice within our teams. You will be supporting mobile developers across Android and iOS. You will have an iOS focus and expertise, and collaborate closely with our Android lead. You’ll be part of a team that values growth, excellence and innovation. We will bring out the explorer, challenger and trail blazer in you, but we are also grounded in sustainable, extensible and holistic approaches.
Development leads represent the developers in the team. Our developers need leads to mentor, coach and review their work. You will also be asked to help validate the technical feasibility of a design or solution and collaborate with product managers, architects and other stakeholders in and outside of the team. Our teams ship frequently, integrating code continuously. Your work not only helps us maintain the quality of our products, but also the operational excellence of our teams through your contribution to the release process and incident management.
How you will make an impact:
Your responsibilities as a Lead Developer in CBC’s Digital Strategy and Products may include:
Leading a team through feature design and implementation, assisting with scoping and prioritization.
Leading design and code reviews; mentoring developers.
Managing release processes, deployments, and incident reviews.
Providing input and feedback on technical decisions, and taking ownership when it needs to happen.
Promoting software development best practices. Helping the team maintain robust, testable, performant and quality code.
Collaborating with UX designers to deliver the best possible audience experience and enabling inclusive and accessibility-first design to thrive
Engaging in quality management activities with mobile teams.
Collaborating with other technical leaders, including the Solution Architect of mobile technology, to align our technical and business strategies.
Participating and growing our community of knowledge, practice, and expertise sharing in mobile roles.
Qualifications
What you bring to our team:
Have three or more years of experience in a senior development role and a demonstrated ability to provide technical and team leadership for other developers.
Have experience with mentoring and giving guidance to other developers.
Are experienced in coding standards, quality management, source code management, continuous integration, release management.
Have a degree (BA, BSc) or diploma in a Software Development, Science or Engineering related discipline, or you’ve acquired your skills through experience and other means.
Have knowledge in the iOS software development lifecycle and Agile best practices.
Have expertise in Swift, and working familiarity with Objective-C, and stay up to date on the latest iOS architectural patterns and components.
Are knowledgeable in automated testing on iOS, its constraints, and how to build quality management processes.
Are experienced in leading and improving release management processes and working with the App Store.
Have excellent communication skills, with the ability to facilitate technical discussions and solicit buy-in on technical decisions.

Are comfortable working with remote team members.
