Reporting to the VP Finance, the Operations Controller will lead the overall operations accounting and reporting requirements within the organization. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a company and team who are constantly seeking out ways to leverage technology to improve processes and deliver value-added information and analysis to leaders across the business. The position is based in the Calgary corporate office with a hybrid remote work option.
Schedule:
This position holds normal business hours, with little to no travel expected
We support a hybrid work environment consisting of flexible remote work and some in-person collaboration at our Calgary or Houston offices
Duties & Responsibilities:
Mentor and manage a group of 10 direct and indirect reports responsible for financial reporting, operational reporting, general ledger maintenance, invoicing, accounts payable and month end close
Lead team members by setting strategic targets and motivate teams to accomplish corporate and personal goals
Oversee and play an active, hands-on role in the financial and month end close cycle
Manage and maintain the accounting records of the organization to facilitate the timely preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual business results
Design and develop operational-level reporting to keep managers up to date regarding key business trends and variances to forecast
Play an active role in the quarterly and annual budgeting and forecasting process
Monitor and manage the capital equipment build program
Evaluate and maintain accounting policies and procedures
Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting functions
Responsible for the overall integrity of the balance sheet
Ensure proper controls are in place to accommodate best in class internal controls
Develop and implement systems and processes to drive efficiencies and automation
Build effective partnerships with individuals throughout the organization that will aid in the advancement of the overall business platform
Respond to ad hoc requests and other duties as required
Requirements:
Bachelor of Commerce Degree with a Professional accountancy program (CPA)
7+ years of relevant financial accounting, reporting and management experience
Knowledge and experience with public company reporting requirements and C-SOX controls
System savvy – Oracle NetSuite experience an asset
Demonstrated leadership skills with a strategic mindset but also an ability to be a hands-on leader
Data analytics a significant asset, with strong MS365 suite skills
Highly service-oriented with outstanding communication, organization, and critical thinking skills
Detail oriented and takes initiative, and is adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity and change
Excellent interpersonal skills; a team player who can act as both a leader and an individual contributor as required
