City of Lloydminster Looking for Equipment Operator – Parks at Lloydminster, AB Full Time

Duties:

The Equipment Operator position is responsible for a variety of park maintenance duties. Equipment Operators keep up the appearance, health, and safety of landscapes and features in public parks. They maintain jogging and biking paths, hiking trails, athletic fields, playgrounds, picnic tables, benches, lawns, flower beds, gardens and cemetery. Equipment Operators beautify the park grounds by keeping lawns green and litter-free and by planting and tending to annual flowers that change with the seasons as well as perennial trees, shrubs, and flowering plants. To keep the park safe, they maintain and make any repairs to park fixtures as needed. They do everything they can to ensure the park is attractive and usable by community members.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Safely and competently operate and perform maintenance checks and inspections on all assigned equipment, including mowers, large tractors, trucks, bobcats, bucket trucks, tandem dump trucks.
• Perform and assist in cemetery operations which include but not limited to the interments, disinterment’s, grounds and facility maintenance
• Operate turf and landscaping equipment
• Help the planning and layout of construction projects, collection of project quotes
• Be responsible for the construction and maintenance of park amenities including playgrounds, park furnishings, buildings, irrigation and landscaping projects.
• Inspect and repair and install park amenities; picnic tables, benches, and other park assets
• Inspect and repair and install playground equipment.
• Maintain and install landscape materials and structures throughout parks and greenspace includes but not limited to Seeding, mowing, mulching, fertilizing, aeration, irrigate.
• Maintain and repair irrigation systems.
• Rehabilitation of damaged turf areas.
• May be required to oversee and assist in the training of summer seasonal parks staff.
• Keep accurate documentation such as, time sheets, equipment inspection sheets, hazard identification forms, and daily work records.
• General cleaning of worksite, equipment and park amenities
• Perform heavy lifting and manual labour.
• Operate equipment for the daily operations of the Parks Division

• Perform and assist in care for trees, and shrubs in the process of tree replacement, removal, watering, and maintenance.

• Keep trails and paths clear of any debris and in good condition
• Pick up litter and remove bagged trash in park amenities and facilities
• Remove snow and ice and maintain safe walking surfaces during cold months
• Work on and maintain outdoor rinks and pond ice surfaces.

Other

• Other related duties as required.
• Assume roll of team lead when required
• This position will be required to operate a municipal vehicle for business purposes
• Successful candidate will be required to complete training on operating equipment and assist the senior equipment operator

• Will take an active part in the City of Lloydminster’s Health and Safety Program.

Schedule:

Standard hours are Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with on-call and weekend shifts.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalency

• Must have experience in construction and landscaping work; possession of relevant tickets or certifications in a construction of landscape related field would be considered.
• Experience in planning and layout of construction projects, interpret maps, sketches/drawings, blueprints, or specifications and/or technical manuals
• Collection of material quote for small projects
• Competently operate various types of equipment including but not limited to skid-steer, tractors, lawn mowers, side by sides
• Must possess and maintain, as a minimum, a Class 3 Driver’s License registered in Alberta or Saskatchewan with Air Endorsement. A clean driving record is mandatory, supported by a driver abstract
• Must be in good physical condition, to accommodate long periods of standing and lifting up to 25 kg (55 lbs).
• The successful candidate will be responsible, reliable, with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
• Candidate will be required to complete training on the maintenance and operation of the equipment used by Senior Equipment Operators

• Skid steer landscaping and snow removal experience
• Competency in using a chainsaw.

• Must be able to work at heights using an aerial device safely and efficiently
• The ability to work on a natural ice surface. (Bud Miller Lake)
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Previous supervisor/lead-hand experience is considered an asset
• Understand written and verbal forms of communication as well, communicate clearly and concisely; written and verbal form
• Proficiency in keeping accurate documentation such as, time sheets, equipment inspection sheets, hazard identification forms, and daily work records, via Smart devices/computers/cell phones
