JOB SUMMARY
Inspections & Maintenance Planning delivers maintenance planning and contract inspection services for Water Services infrastructure/systems (surface water treatment plants, communal drinking water systems, linear watermains, linear wastewater and stormwater collection sewers, pump stations and the wastewater treatment plant), to ensure the continuous and adequate supply of high quality potable water to customers at the lowest cost.
Working closely with the Service area, you are responsible for providing maintenance planning and technical support to assigned Services Plants and/or Remote Facilities to enable the safe, efficient and effective completion of assigned preventative and predictive maintenance jobs. This includes supporting the monitoring, inspection, operations, maintenance, replacement, and repair of the Department’s treatment plants and facilities infrastructure assets (vertical assets), in either of the following operational areas:
Drinking Water Production;
Wastewater Collection and Drinking Water Remote Facilities;
Wastewater Treatment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 2 year community college diploma as a Mechanical, Electrical or Instrumentation Technician, or Business Systems according to the position requirements.
OR
Completion of an apprenticeship program in one of the following trades according to the position requirements: Industrial Mechanic/Millwright (8000 hours), Electrician-Maintenance & Construction or Industrial Electrician (9000 hours), or Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic (9000 hours)
Minimum of 5 years of experience after trade certification or graduation, in the installation, testing, operation, repair and maintenance of equipment, facilities in an industrial or municipal establishment, preferably in water or wastewater setting (depending on the position requirements). The incumbent must have increasingly responsible work experience, and have demonstrated the ability to effectively plan, coordinate and organize the work.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification in relevant Trade
Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
Must obtain Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates within the time frame determined by the employer
Must complete all required on-the-job training/certifications (e.g. WHMIS, fall arrest, confined space entry, etc.) within the timeframe determined by the employer.
TSSA Gas and/or Oil Burner Technician certificate is an asset
Ontario MOE Operator Certificate at the appropriate level within the applicable Drinking Water/Wastewater process area, depending on the position, is an asset
KNOWLEDGE
Regulatory requirements including Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Park (MECP), Ministry of Labour, Building and Fire Safety codes
Trade, maintenance and construction principles, methods, practices and procedures relevant to assigned area such as HVAC, Hydraulics, Electrical, Mechanical and Instrumentation/SCADA systems
Technical Safety Standards Association (TSSA) standards for all mechanical, fuel and HVAC equipment (as required for position)
Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) codes/standards for electrical equipment
Infrastructure Health and Safety Association for electrical Controlling Authority Work Permits and Supporting Guarantees (as required for position)
Best practices and principles for the operations and maintenance of plant for facility assets
Water Services plant, facility or network operations and maintenance procedures and processes
Water Services quality control procedures
Health and safety procedures, equipment and legislation, including hoisting, rigging, protective clothing and equipment and confined space entry rules and regulations
Essential principles of project management and delivery
By-laws, policies, procedures, standards and specifications applicable to the City and Public Works and Environmental Services
Techniques and equipment used to safely undertake operational/maintenance in close proximity to other utility structures, e.g. gas, hydro and telephone, etc.
Solid working knowledge of computer applications including CMMS (SAP,) Excel, Outlook (e-mail), Word
Knowledge of corporate process for finance, contracting, purchasing, inventory and cost centre accounting
Methods and techniques for planning and scheduling multi faceted, technical jobs/tasks

You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
