Major Responsibilities:
- Directs crews and performs skilled work in the building and maintenance of transportation infrastructure.
- Meet with crew onsite to review locates, job assignments and work zone safety.
- Constructs, reconstructs and repairs sidewalks, curbs, roads and asphalt infrastructure, as well as maintenance adjustments to catch basins, water and sewer chamber covers, and access holes, etc.
- Operates vehicle to transport co-workers, materials and equipment to job site.
- Performs various winter maintenance activities including the operation of various winter maintenance equipment.
- Ensures vehicles, machines and equipment are being well maintained and safe working condition.
- Ensures all vehicles, equipment, and tools are secured in work zone or returned to yard and ensures the work zone is left in a safe and clean manner.
- Ensures that work is performed in a clean and safe manner. Sets out cones and flashers as required per the Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7, and ensures proper traffic control devices are in place.
- Contacts utility companies and meets with representatives, as required, to locate utilities prior to digging ensuring excavation areas are clear of underground utilities.
- Complete daily work records, field sheets and other work-related documents and updates Supervisor as required.
- Act as the Competent Worker on the work site as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Assists Supervisor in laying out work and determining requirements. Interprets drawings and specifications.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
Key Qualifications:
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Experience in placing and finishing concrete, masonry and asphalt repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Considerable experience with the uses of standard tools, materials, methods and practices used in concrete work.
- Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “D” Driver’s License (with “Z” endorsement) and must qualify for the City’s equipment operating permits and requirements.
You must also have:
- Proven ability to determine work to be done, materials required, etc.
- Ability to prepare and complete all relevant forms, schedules, checklists, daily activity reports, etc.
- Knowledge and ability to maintain vehicles and equipment in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
- Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.
- Ability to provide work direction and training to others.
- Must be physically capable of performing required duties. Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
- Must be available to work shift/weekend/overtime/on call duty.
