Under the general supervision of the Superintendent, Water & Sewer, and the Supervisor of Water and Wastewater Disposal, the incumbent is required to perform maintenance, repairs and conduct a preventative maintenance program for City facilities. These duties include, but are not limited to, carrying out maintenance tasks with other tradespeople and Power Engineers, operational troubleshooting, and various improvement projects. The incumbent may be required to act as the Supervisor of Water and Wastewater Disposal in his / her absence. This position will also require the successful candidate to participate in an on-call rotation.
A Journeyman Trade Certification in Plumbing is preferred as is an Oil Burner Mechanic Certificate, but other trades may be considered. Grade 12 or GED and a valid NWT Class 5 Driver’s License are required. A Class 2 Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate or a willingness to obtain this within two years is also required. A Class 5 Power Engineering Certificate would be considered an asset as would experience in the operation and maintenance of diesel engines, pumps and other related equipment. Extensive experience in the building trades is essential, which normally would be acquired through a minimum of three years’ experience.
