Job Summary
The Senior Manager, Engineering is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of tracks, roadbed, and right of way in accordance with sound engineering practices and approved railway standards, specifications, procedures and budget, and within the CN operating plan.
Main Responsibilities
Leadership
· Provide leadership to Track Supervisors, Assistant Track Supervisors and hourly Maintenance of Way (MOW) employees
· Provide clear direction on employee performance and department goals
· Coach and counsel subordinates who are not performing at established goals and standards
· Respond to grievances and resolve them
Safety Compliance
· Build safety compliance and improve safety results through regular efficiency walkabouts
· Provide positive and constructive feedback and coaching
Capital Program
· Prepare capital program requirements
· Analyze and interpret track geometry and rail flaw reports to identify conditions requiring actions to meet engineering track standards
Operations
· Manage activities related to derailments and disruptions in service while collaborating with others to determine cause and future prevention
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences. The role requires frequent travel (50%) within the region.
Requirements
Experience
Railroad
· Minimum 10 years of railroad experience
o Minimum 6 years of track experience
o Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience
Education/Certification/Designation
· High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
· General Code of Operation Rules (GCOR) Certification

Technical Skills/Knowledge
· Comprehensive knowledge of track structure, construction and maintenance, identifying track defects
· Knowledge of engineering track standards and operation measures
· Understanding of applicable collective agreements
· Knowledge of Microsoft suite (Excel, Word)
· Knowledge of Track Inspection System (TIS)
· Knowledge of Systems, Applications and Products (SAP)
· Knowledge of Train Management Dispatch System (TMDS)
