DUTIES: The role of the Coordinating Instructor is one of instructional leadership, liaison, and support. The Coordinating Instructor provides leadership and support to the instructional team and students enrolled in the Practical Nursing program at College of the North Atlantic’s Corner Brook campus, and works in partnership with faculty, campus administration, the Dean of Health Sciences, the Centre for Nursing Studies, and Eastern Health to ensure the delivery of quality programming and services to students. The Coordinating Instructor will coordinate faculty orientation activities and participate in student registration and orientation; coordinate scheduling of teaching assignments, the allocation of classrooms and labs, and the development of exam schedules; identify and resolve student concerns, student recruitment and admissions challenges, and attendance, progress, and evaluation issues; provide academic advising services to students; assist with program accreditation, program review, and program development activities; coordinate activities such as the requisitioning of materials and supplies; serve on appropriate campus and program committees; identify and resolve program issues related to curriculum and instruction delivery; and assist in the identification and recruitment of qualified staff for hard-to-fill instructional positions. The Coordinating Instructor will be expected to provide occasional classroom, lab, and/or clinical instruction where they will facilitate learning; incorporate their own teaching style to existing lesson plans while meeting the learning objectives of the course material; work with other faculty members to ensure a coordinated and consistent teaching approach to ensure the planned curriculum for each course is delivered; prepare and implement various instructional strategies, techniques, and learning modules using an approved curriculum to achieve specified learning outcomes; utilize and advocate for the use of technology to advance teaching and learning; establish student performance objectives and evaluation methods; administer various assessments; meet with students regularly to gauge and evaluate progress; set a professional example and communicate effectively at a level appropriate to the ability of students and provide an emotionally safe learning environment that is conducive to learning; maintain appropriate classroom discipline following college policies and procedures; identify and resolve problem areas in learning; provide academic advising to students; participate in professional development activities, maintain currency, and strive for excellence in instructional practices and the nursing profession; and actively participate in and contribute to accreditation activities to ensure the program is of the highest standard. Other related duties consistent with providing and maintaining quality student-centered instruction will be required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a current practicing license with the College of Registered Nurses Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL), or eligibility to obtain one; a relevant Master’s degree from an accredited post-secondary institution; and at least five years of recent and relevant experience in nursing. Candidates must be knowledgeable in the subject area and candidates should have an understanding of classroom management and instructional techniques currently being utilized in a teaching and learning environment, as well as proficiency and/or a willingness to embrace teaching and learning technologies to support the student learning experience. Candidates must have communication skills, with a commitment to teaching excellence and to supporting and delivering a positive student learning experience; the ability to be a team leader and work cooperatively and collaboratively with other faculty and staff; organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and efficiently meet deadlines; and possess critical thinking and problem solving skills with an ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs of students.
