manage and process our full cycle Ceridian payroll for 150 employees located across Canada and in the USA mid-west.
Accountant, Delta, BC
The Accountant is responsible for general accounting duties as well as the full cycle payroll functions, ensuring the financial requirements for processing employee pay, and benefits meet all provincial and state payroll compliance standards, Canada Customs and Revenue Acts and Internal Revenue Service, and financial auditor’s requirements. This position is responsible for full-cycle payroll, accounting reconciliation, as well as answering general human resources queries to support our employees across Canada and the USA.
Core Responsibilities:
General Ledger
· Reconcile bank accounts daily, cash clearing accounts and Loan accounts as requested.
· Reconcile Capital lease GL Accounts.
· Maintain vehicle listing.
Payroll
· Process payroll from onboarding to terminations, for both Canadian and American employees.
· Review time entries for completion and compliance to multi-jurisdictional and National Employment Standards as well as the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
· Administer payroll vendors payment and reconciliation.
· Complete payroll journal entries and post to the General Ledger.
· Reconcile all payroll balance sheet accounts.
· Year end (T-4/Releve 1, W9) entries, issue income tax forms and year end reconciliation of WCB/Health tax accounts.
Human Resources Administration
· Communicate with managers and staff on payroll and benefit policies and questions.
· Benefits enrolment and administration – sets up employees and terminate employees.
· Maintain all employee database listing information including ensuring Vehicle Licensing listings and Driver’s Abstracts are in place and on file, etc.
All other job-related duties as required.
Who Are You?
This position would interest an independent and experienced accountant and payroll administrator, who has several years of progressive payroll and accounting experience. You will bring legislative and payroll knowledge in different provincial, state, and federal payroll laws and regulations. You are excited about the opportunity for personal development, perhaps while you attain an accounting designation. You have a willingness to take a proactive learning approach to gain a high level of knowledge to assist with the goals and objectives of the firm.
Education and/or Experience
Skill Set:
· Minimum 3 years experience in accounting and running full-cycle payroll, including experience processing payroll in the United States.
· Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification (PCP), or CPM from the Canadian Payroll Association is highly desired.
· Payroll and or working on their CPA designation. Undergraduate degree or diploma in accounting an asset.
Skills and Knowledge:
· Strong accounting background and ability to reconcile payroll related GL accounts.
· Working knowledge of human resources policies, procedures and multi-provincialand US labour standards.
· Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word processing skills.
· Well-developed analytical, decision-making, customer service skill.
· Organized, detailed-oriented and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
· Ability to have a flexible schedule during peak times to meet payroll deadlines.
· Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills must possess very strong command of the English language in both written and oral form. French speaking would be an asset.
· Must be highly confidential, diplomatic, and professional.
· Experience with Ceridian payroll systems, is highly desired.
What We Offer
We provide a competitive compensation package, including base salary of $68,000 to $72,000 per annum, health and wellness benefits. Some flexibility for partial remote work from home once fully trained and competition of a successful probationary period.
