Confidential Looking for Accounting Manager at Toronto, Ontario, Canada Full Time

We are in search of an Accounting Manager for our company. We are a leading financial investment firm. We are located in Downtown Toronto by Union Station, we are in the office 3 days a week and from home 2 days a week.

We need someone who has a Canadian CPA designation.

This is a one-year contract role covering a maternity leave.

• Review all invoices received and obtain proper approval.
• Review all letters of authorization for internal transfers and wires.
• Review all electronic transactions entered via bank portals.
• Regularly review monthly transaction summary updated by the accounting team to ensure sufficient cash is available to cover upcoming transactions.
• Contact banks to make cash available for upcoming transactions, and obtain advance approval for large transactions.
• Ensure Canadian and US cash balances are reasonably allocated between financial institutions, optimizing better yields where possible.
• Evaluate employee matching donation requests to ensure compliance with the donation matching policy.
• Ensure all recurring payments are made on time, including payroll and tax-related remittances.
• Ensure all incoming payments are received on time, including loan principal and interest, investment distributions, and quarterly dividends.

• Review periodic HST returns and charity rebate claims.
• Review all information required for the preparation of annual tax returns in various jurisdictions, which includes submitting financial statements and supporting documentation in advance of their tax deadlines to ensure sufficient preparation time for the returns.
• Liaise with tax return preparers to answer questions, and enlist the assistance of our accounting team as needed.
• Review detailed annual foreign accrual property income (FAPI) calculations for our Canadian entities, which are prepared by our accounting team. This involves analyzing the net income of foreign subsidiaries, converting it to Canadian dollars, and properly classifying it under Canadian tax rules.
• Review all tax forms, returns and supporting working papers to be filed with the tax authorities in various jurisdictions, and ensure timely filing.
• Review all Canadian trust financial statements and tax returns, and ensure they are informed of any transactions involving our entities and the trusts.
• Review information required for annual tax return audits by Canada Revenue Agency.

• Review all journal entries prepared by the accounting team prior to posting in Sage.
• Review the annual financial statements, detailed accounting records in Sage and Quickbooks, and supporting calculations for all entities.
• Liaise with external auditors for annual financial statement audits where required, and review information provided to auditors to ensure it is correct and complete.
• Review intercompany quarterly invoices, including review of general ledgers to ensure proper allocation of expenses.
• Review and approve all utility summaries for all real properties, which are updated by the Assistant Controller.

• Review and distribute monthly reports with respect to the performance of the investment portfolio as a whole, as well as specific segments of it.
• Review quarterly reports of personal expenses for the individuals involved, and ensure proper reimbursement of these expenses by other entities.

• Review annual resolutions for the limited partnerships to approve all capital contributions and distributions.
• Ensure all warrants approaching expiry are properly considered by the team prior to the deadline.
• Alert appropriate team members of upcoming loan due dates.
• Review share certificates received for investments, and obtain appropriate approval.
• Ensure the appropriate resolutions are prepared when required to support cash transactions
