The Director of Accounting oversees all aspects of the accounting department, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with financial regulations. This role is responsible for managing accounting accuracy and timeliness, financial reporting, auditing, change management and process improvement. The Director of Accounting provides strategic financial guidance to senior management and collaborates with cross-functional teams to drive business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the accounting department, including staff recruitment, training, and performance evaluation of teams in Canada, US and Mexico.
• Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.
• Oversee the preparation of financial statements, reports, and forecasts in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and company guidelines.
• Coordinate the annual budgeting process with the FP&A team, working closely with department heads to establish financial goals and objectives.
• Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, including the reconciliation of accounts and preparation of financial statements.
• Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate annual audits and address any audit findings or recommendations.
• Monitor cash flow, investment activities, and financial performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and risk mitigation.
• Develop and execute transaction process improvement plans, utilizing AI and other technologies wherever economically feasible and control appropriate.
• Working closely with the FP&A team, provide financial analysis and strategic recommendations to senior management to support decision-making and business planning initiatives.
• Stay informed about changes in accounting regulations and industry trends and assess their potential impact on the organization.
• Lead special projects and initiatives as assigned by senior management, such as system implementations, process improvements, or mergers/acquisitions.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation highly preferred.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
• Strong technical knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting principles.
• Experience and excellence in team management and change management.
• Experience in systems implementations, and/or technological process improvements preferred.
• Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems; familiarity with Microsoft Excel and other financial modeling tools.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting and compliance.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
