The County Biologist/Stewardship Coordinator will provide technical advice on behalf of the County of Huron with respect to Natural Heritage for planning inquiries and applications. This includes reviewing planning applications for consistency with Provincial, County, and local policies related to Natural Heritage and Species at Risk, and reviewing Terms of Reference and Environmental Impact Studies. The position also assists with the development and review of Natural Heritage policies in County and local Official Plans.
The Biologist/Stewardship coordinator provides staff support to the Huron Stewardship Council (HSC). The role is to develop, nurture, and support community and landowner relationships to promote sustainable management of woodlands, protect fish and wildlife, and implement stewardship activities. This includes an emphasis on education, awareness, and incentive tools to promote wise land stewardship.
The position also coordinates the Huron Clean Water Project on behalf of the County and provides support and participates in local stewardship and resource-related groups such as the Water Protection Steering Committee, Lower Maitland Stewardship and Huron Perth Woodlot Association.
