Cybera is looking for a Data Science Intern to join the Callysto project’s team in Calgary, Edmonton or remotely for a full-time, 4 month term position with a possibility of extension. The ideal candidate will have an interest in learning, applying, creating, and teaching data science learning materials, solving challenging data problems and has a background in research, analytics, math and statistics.
Responsibilities
Help train a network of teachers and students across Canada to use and popularize the project.
Help design and create learning assets (teacher guides, lesson plans and Jupyter notebooks) for teachers of Grades 5-12 that incorporate computational thinking, coding elements and data science literacy.
Create training and workshop content and learning assets for Grades 5-12 teachers and students.
Collaborate with other project team members to identify, prioritize, develop and review learning content.
Attributes
Candidates must possess:
Completed or in-progress degree in a quantitative discipline (mathematics and statistics, computer science, or life sciences).
Two years of software development experience coding with Python or R.
Comfort in using Jupyter notebooks.
Documented ability to perform data exploration, statistical analysis, and work with large datasets of varying quality.
Strong interpersonal communications skills for effective interactions with internal team members and strong presentation skills.
Nice to have skills and experience:
Experience working on an agile team.
Experience using modern data science tools to develop machine learning models.
Previous experience working with teachers and students in Grades 5-12.
Compensation and Location:
Located at either of our Calgary AB or Edmonton AB offices or remotely within Alberta or British Columbia.
