Cybera is a not-for-profit agency whose mission is to improve the lives of Albertans through the use and advancement of technology, digital literacy, and digital best practices. We serve the education, enterprise, research and government’s needs at a provincial (and occasionally national) level.
About the role:
Cybera, Alberta’s not-for-profit technology accelerator, is looking for an Education Specialist to join the Callysto project’s team in Calgary, Edmonton, or remotely in Alberta for a full-time, six month term position with a possibility of extension. The ideal candidate will have an interest in learning, applying, creating, and teaching curriculum-connected data science learning materials, experience with educational technology, and an education degree or teaching certificate.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Help build and train a network of teachers and students across Canada to use and popularize the project through online or in-person instruction.
Help identify, design, create, and modify learning assets (teacher guides, lesson plans, and Jupyter notebooks) for teachers of Grades 5-12 that incorporate computational thinking, coding elements, and data science literacy.
Help create training and workshop content and learning assets for Grades 5-12 teachers and students.
Collaborate with other project team members to identify, prioritize, develop, and review learning content.
Develop, present, organize and promote virtual programs for the Callysto program.
Help coordinate program bookings from teachers and/or groups for the Callysto events and workshops.
Maintain accurate records related to assigned activities and projects, including evaluation and recommendations of program methods; and prepare reports on activities.
Conduct in-service sessions for teachers and related staff.
In conjunction with the communications team, develop and conduct appropriate surveys.
Other related duties as assigned.
CANDIDATES WILL IDEALLY OFFER
Candidates must possess:
Post-secondary training in Education.
Comfort using technology in the classroom.
Familiarity with provincial student competencies and curricular outcomes.
Previous experience instructing teachers and students in Grades 5-12.
Strong interpersonal communications skills for effective interactions with internal team members and strong presentation skills.
Nice to have skills and experience:
Education degree.
Current provincial professional teacher certification.
Degree in a quantitative discipline (math, computer science, or life sciences).
Software development expertise, primarily coding skills in Python or R.
Note: A Police Information Check including the vulnerable sector are conditions of employment for successful candidates. The checks must be completed prior to commencement of work.
Compensation and Location:
Located at either of our Calgary AB or Edmonton AB offices or remotely within Alberta.
