Job Summary
A core unit within Student Affairs, the Registrar’s Office is a large, multi-unit, multi-site operation involved in the entire academic experience of Dalhousie students, from recruitment and admissions through to convocation and beyond. Reporting to the Associate Director, Admissions, the Assistant Registrar will participate in programs relating to admitting and recruiting undergraduate students from diverse populations to Dalhousie.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a decision-maker on the admission of undergraduate applicants, and as an institutional expert in international admissions, providing training, policy guidance and interpretation to the University Registrar, Director of Admissions, and admissions staff and committees.
Consult with Faculty admission committees and colleagues, as appropriate, regarding borderline cases and speak knowledgeably about students’ academic background, particularly those educated internationally, advising the committee on past precedent and relevant admission requirements.
Advise new and continuing students, particularly new international students, on an individual and group basis, on such matters as programs, class and timetable selections, and degree requirements.
Advise the Registrar and Director of Recruitment on potential international recruitment markets, and periodically represent the University on international recruiting tours. Provide training to colleagues on areas such as educational systems and cultural expectations.
Liaise with prospective agents regarding the range of programs available at Dalhousie, ensure prompt service and high profile for the University, and assess and recommend the services of current agents. Receive and review agent invoices and maintain associated financial statistics.
Note
Periodic travel is required, including to international locations. The successful candidate must have or obtain, and maintain a valid passport.
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Qualifications
Undergraduate degree plus approximately five years’ related administrative experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. A Master’s degree is preferred. Ideally, experience will be in a university setting, or in a setting requiring considerable research, analysis and/or evaluation of data. Experience developing policy documents and reviewing laws or standards in light of a constantly changing international political environment is required. Must have the demonstrated ability to meet deadlines under pressure, work independently, and maintain relevant proficiency and knowledge. Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills, particularly in an international context, are required. Must have demonstrated ability to advise and counsel a wide variety of audiences with tact, sensitivity and confidentiality.
