What you will do:

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development is seeking an individual to join the Human Resources Branch as an Employee Relations Consultant providing support to EECD and school district HR professionals across the province.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Human Resources, the Employee Relations Consultant is responsible to provide advice, guidance and support in all aspects of employee relations matters and will ensure the consistent application of Human Resources policies, acts and collective agreements. The Employee Relations Consultant will lead the process for the Protection of Pupils while ensuring compliance with the Education Act and applicable collective agreements.

Key responsibilities include:

• Responsible for leading the Protection of Pupils complaint process, including but not limited to:
  • Evaluating incoming complaints for completeness.
  • Communication with districts, parents and external stakeholders such as police and Social Development.
  • Conducting Prima Facie review of complaint.
  • Securing investigative resources.
  • Providing training to district administration on their role on the Protection of Pupils processes as required.
• Interpretation of all applicable collective agreements.
• Participating in labour relations activities such as provincial labour-management meetings.
• Assistance at negotiations and administrative of the collective agreements.
• Provide advice to school district HR, assist in mediation of grievances, conflict resolutions and provide support for workplace investigations (such as harassment, poisoned work environments, Human Rights issues and employee misconduct).

Work environment:

• Office location: 250 King Street, Fredericton.
• Office layout: Closed in office.
• Standard hours of work: Monday – Friday, 8:15-4:30.

Need to have:

• We are seeking individuals who can concretely demonstrate their suitability for the role regardless of any specific combination of education and work experience. Salary will be determined based on education and experience up to pay band 5 in accordance with GNB compensation tables.

Written and spoken competence rated at Advanced Plus or higher in both English and French is required due to required support in both Anglophone and Francophone school districts. Please state your language capability.

Nice to Have:

• A recognized Human Resources or Labour Relations concentration, diploma or certificate.
• Experience coordination of investigations of legislative and/or policy violations.
• Knowledge of labour relations of human resources related governmental legislation, policies, and procedures.
• And/or CPHR designation (Chartered Professionals in Human Resources).

• On occasion, some travel throughout the province may be required.
• On occasion, work may be required outside of standard hours of work.

Wage:
Pay Band 5: $61,204 – $85,514 annually.
