DESCRIPTION, RESPONSIBILITIES, & DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Discovery Preschool is seeking a part time preschool teachers who can passionately support children’s play, exploration, inquiry, and creative/critical thinking. We are looking for one teacher to begin any time in January 2023. If you are interested in a team-teaching experience with 3, 4 and 5 year olds please consider applying. Shifts are 8:30am-12:15pm Monday through Friday. No summer hours are available for this job, and there will be no summer compensation.

Discovery Preschool has offered a Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool programs since 2006 and is run cooperatively by parent volunteers. The School recently moved into a new location equiped with a private classroom, eating area, and gymnasium. We promote experiences that build a child’s relationship with the natural world and use of materials as “languages” of expression. Discovery Preschool is a place where learning is a joint venture between children and teachers and where learning happens in the context of childhood. We practice project-based teaching and learning. We provide children with many materials to express and represent their thinking. We also have an easily accessible outdoor space and try to get the classes outside regularly.

Essential Job Functions

The Preschool Teacher will be expected to work with the lead teacher to create a democratic, creative environment in which meaningful learning and personal growth are fostered through a variety of creative learning experiences in our two classrooms. We use a team teaching model in which both teachers contribute fully to the development of the classroom environment, observations, planning and implementation of project work and other curriculum.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

• Collaborate with the lead teacher to develop project work arising out of thoughtful reflection on student interest and work.
• Establish and communicate clear expectations for students inclusive of respect, collaboration, participation , community-building and problem-solving.
• Work with students in a democratic fashion modeling good citizenship, critical and creative thinking and responsibility as a classroom and school community member.
• Provide opportunities for individual and small group investigation and skill-building.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of child development ages and stages relevant to students.
• Communicate well with parents and care givers as well as the parent run board of directors.
• Identify student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
• Create an effective environment for learning through daily provocations and invitations, intentional presentation of materials centered around hands-on learning opportunities, and documentation.
• Applicants must have a Level 2 or Level 3 teaching certification.
• 2 years of teaching experience preferred (but not required).

SALARY & BENEFITS

Commensurate with experience and expertise . Salary range $25-$30 /hour

We provide children with many materials to express and represent their thinking.

We offer 2 preschool classrooms (both capping at 18 children with two preschool teachers and occasional parent volunteers):
3/4 Year Old Class – Tues/Thurs 9:15-11:45
4 Year Old Class – Mon/Wed/Fri 9:15-11:45

Job Type: Part-time
Part-time hours: 20 per week

Salary: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
