Position Overview
A regular full-time position is available for an experienced professional housing planner to join our dynamic Community Planning team. In this role, you will leverage your knowledge and experience to develop and implement housing policies, strategies and programs to help achieve Council’s goals for the community. You will evaluate community housing needs and coordinate housing-related grant and funding opportunities. As the District’s housing planner, you will support initiatives that seek to address homelessness on the North Shore. You bring a deep understanding of the affordable and non-market housing sectors. As such, you will work with governmental and agency partners to coordinate the delivery of non-market housing. You will be part of a dedicated team, supporting and working closely with the Senior Planner and Manager of Community Planning.
As the Housing Planner, you can expect to work with consultants, participate in committees and comment on development applications that have an affordable housing component. With a positive outlook, you will maintain strong relationships with internal and external clients. Writing Council reports and designing public engagement processes will also form part of your job. To succeed at this role, you will have a strong understanding of planning principles, processes, and legislation. You are a creative and independent worker who integrates new ideas, perspectives and best practices into your work. Your skills allow you to identify effective solutions, while managing competing perspectives to meet deadlines. You have excellent skills in project management, strategic thinking and data analysis.
You have a postgraduate degree in Planning or related discipline, complemented by progressive professional experience in long-range and policy planning, with a focus on housing, preferably gained in a municipal environment. A minimum of five years of professional planning experience is desirable. Membership or eligibility for membership with PIBC or CIP, and a BC Driver’s License are required.

Compensation
The pay range for this unionized position is $48.64 – $57.59 per hour (2021 rates) based on a 35-hour work week.
