DDC is looking for a person like you to fill the UAV Software Engineer role. You will make a difference to DDC and the Engineering team as you navigate the following duties and responsibilities:
The UAV Software Engineer will be responsible for integrating software & related technology to ensure proper operation of all components of the UAV solution.
Drive the development and integration of software systems for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), products and services
Participate in the analysis, development and design phases of the solution
Contribute to company software development processes including change requests, repository maintenance and code reviews
Ensure system validation and testing in concept, design and product validation stages in a simulation, lab, or field environment
Responsible for driving product quality through processes including producing, and preparing technical documentation, management briefings / log reports
Test systems, debug and resolve technical issues
May occasionally participate in Field Operations to evaluate technologies in specific use cases (10%)
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
University degree in aerospace, computer, electrical, mechanical or mechatronics engineering or computer science
At least 1 year of professional experience in an engineering or related position
Hands-on development experience with electronics, embedded systems, autopilots, or robotics
Working knowledge of programming languages such as Python, C++ and C#
Experience setting up or working with software architecture, repositories, tools and / or databases
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of robotics concepts such as perception, state estimation, motion planning and control systems
Ability to analyze data and produce actionable conclusions using concepts from fields such as data science and machine learning
Working knowledge of communication standards and protocols such as UART, I2C, CAN, RS-232 and Ethernet
Experience with embedded system rapid prototyping using hardware such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi
Experience working with and integrating various robotic sensors and actuators
Experience in safety critical system design
Knowledge & understanding of common UAV configurations such as multirotors and conventional helicopters
Knowledge, industry experience and / or certifications in general or unmanned aviation

Hours of Work, Work Environment and Potential Travel
Full Time
37.5 hours per week and some overtime occasionally
8:30am to 4:30pm
Valid Class-G driver’s license in good standing and regular access to a personal vehicle required
Outdoor work, exposure to cold, heat or other weather elements
Some travel within Canada required
