Position Description The Research Officer will support ongoing and upcoming projects at Egale Canada. The Research Officer will primarily assist on two projects: the first relating to anti-trans movements within post-secondary settings (this project will involve community partnerships, a virtual symposium, and the creation of resources and tools), and the second relating to evaluating the efficacy and effectiveness of gender-affirming training for parents and caregivers in two cohorts (ON and NL). Working closely with the Director of Research, research staff, research partners, and external partners, the Research Officer will assist with the designing and implementation of research activities, outreach, and knowledge mobilization related to the above topic. The Research Officer will have support and guidance from senior members of the research team, as well as from other departments at Egale. Primary Duties & Responsibilities The Research Officer’s primary role is to provide research assistance in two projects (described above). The successful candidate for this position will be expected to: 25% Conducting literature reviews and environmental scans on relevant topics relating to the projects they are working on. 25% Assisting in the development of pre-post surveys and focus groups and/or interview guides; assisting in the collection of data; assisting in the analysis of generated data. 25% Writing activities, such as drafting and finalizing reports, summaries, and briefs. 15% Supporting in the organization of consultations and project events (e.g., focus groups; virtual symposiums; committee meetings). 10% Collaborating with the project teams to create, or facilitating the creation of, various resources and tools. Qualifications Education and Experience: We recognize the value of a variety of educational experiences including, but not limited to, academic, work and lived experience. However, a degree/diploma in one of the following areas would be an asset: An equivalent combination of education, experience and/or lived experience will be considered. A completed master’s degree in social sciences, humanities, or related field (with a preference for degrees in education, sociology, gender studies, or a related discipline). Knowledge and/or experience with community-based research. Knowledge and/or experience with anti-ableist, anti-racist, intersectional, critical research. Demonstrated experience in designing and carrying out research activities (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed methods). Must have strong writing skills. Experience in conducting literature reviews (academic and grey literature). Experience with academic publications and presentations is considered an asset. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization (EDID) principles, and a strong understanding of anti-racism and anti-oppression framework. A strong understanding of, and familiarity with, 2SLGBTQI communities. Must be familiar with research ethics and protocols. Familiarity with the social and structural issues facing 2SLGBTQI people in Canada. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to analyze information, summarize findings and present them in ways easily understandable to decision-makers and to lay audiences. Excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to set priorities, work independently and perform well under pressure. Well-developed problem-solving, negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills. Strong academic writing, applied reasoning, and analytical skills. Experience with software related to data analysis is considered an asset. Bilingual in English and French is an asset. Working Conditions: In Office: Accessible building located along city bus route.
