The Opportunity
The Assistant Director – PBFA will provide finance advisor support to Service Line/CBS leadership and Finance team members. They oversee preparation of plan inputs and are responsible for the preparation of routine financial analysis and interpretation of financial results, report commentaries and cost analysis for a particular Business Unit or Service line. They support finance leadership (RFL, Region SL FA) in identification of areas requiring further analysis to agree corrective action.
This role will establish a trusted relationship with their client, understanding their needs and teaming with other Finance team members to bring best in class analytical support, functional expertise and reporting solutions. This role provides critical thinking on business direction, operating performance and financial results, in support of Regional, SL and CBS leadership teams.
This position is active in the financial planning processes; identifies business trends; recommends courses of action; and may lead the implementation of advances in technology and software to meet changing business needs. They may also manage the PBFA function for a business unit (BU), practice or national area. This role is responsible for the interpretation of financial results, report generation and cost analysis.
Your key responsibilities
Preparation of budget templates for designated SL or SSL including first level modelling of plan inputs. Coordination of planning timelines for the region.
Advises SL/CBS leadership on achieving plan during forecast process and throughout the year, assessing resources and deployment challenges, as well as other drivers, using historical results/trends to assess potential outcomes achievable.
Manage SL/CBS reporting suite making appropriate use of GDS and R&A teams to ensure up to date packages are maintained.
Proactively identify analyses to determine causes of performance deviations from expectations (e.g., profitability, inventory levels, realization, utilization, staffing levels, indirect and practice-related expense controls, and cash collections) and suggest course correcting actions.
Support Region SL FA in delivering ad hoc financial advice to SL/CBS leadership that supports strategic discussions and also lead inquiries received from the business on event-specific triggers.
Provide data and interpretation of financial results via written communications and oral presentations.
Communicate with established networks within the Global entities and internal personnel to resolve open issues.
Develop and implement new procedures to achieve efficient and effective operation of finance-related processes.
Provide active support and participation in task forces, initiatives and projects.
Investigate capabilities of software upgrades to improve reporting and analysis.
Provide guidance, direction and evaluation of work of financial analysts and junior financial analysts. Mentor and train team members to master tasks of increasing complexity.
Implement planning approaches that will facilitate the achievement of strategic and operational goals. Utilize the planning process and related communications to achieve alignment of priorities; analyze and challenge Plans, highlighting key issues, opportunities and provide remedial recommendations.
Support financial scenario modeling for leadership, providing recommended solutions/outcomes within a range of options, in support of enterprise management
Participate in special projects as necessary
Skills and attributes for success
Strong understanding of the business (e.g., how Professional Service Firms generate and recognize revenue, measure utilization and productivity of resources, and accurately calculate the value of unbilled client receivables)
Ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization
Analytical – ability to interpret complex business issues and present data in a meaningful way
Ability to identify issues and make insightful recommendations
Ability to develop accurate financial budgets and be able to communicate reasons for variances to budget or prior year
Able to prepare and present accurate restatements or pro-forma analysis as business needs change

To qualify for the role you must have
7+ years’ of experience in a related area of accounting or analysis;
A bachelor’s degree (or country equivalent qualification in accounting and / or finance) or equivalent years of relevant experience
Experience working with senior stakeholders;
Financial management, forecasting and variance analysis experience beneficial
Strong excel skills for complex financial analysis
Ideally, you’ll also have
Experience coaching and mentoring junior employees
An accounting designation
