The Opportunity

The Portfolio Services Group Analyst aims to improve the capacity of the investment team and increase the control, efficiency, and consistency of the investment process. The individual will contribute to the overall FIC investment management organization by identifying and implementing improvements to the investment process, trade workflows, and other matters relevant to investment management.

What You Will Do

• Act on behalf of the investment team to address their needs and issues relating to compliance and investment operations matters
• Review, clear and/or escalate pre-trade compliance issues on behalf of the investment team
• Able to independently work to understand and resolve daily fund related issues (i.e. overdrafts, FX / cash related issues, settlement issues, corporate actions, margin calls, etc.); coordinate with other business partners within investment management, across Fidelity Canada, and externally as necessary
• Review and analyze daily cash flows, large deal activity, and account balances. Where necessary, communicate to relevant portfolio manager and compile any necessary trade lists taking into account their instructions, fund restrictions, and other client requirements as needed
• Implement investment decisions on behalf on investment teams; including pro-active identification of potential issues and providing feedback to necessary parties in a timely manner
• Coordinate with investment management business partners (i.e. trading, investment operations, capital markets, compliance, middle- and back-office) on matters as necessary, including assisting with resolution of issues.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of experience in the investment industry, ideally supporting a team of investment professionals
• Exposure to portfolio management, trading, compliance and/or investment operations for an asset manager or related entity is an asset
• University degree (concentration in business administration, finance, economics, or other related field) or equivalent work experience

What You Will Bring

• Experience in an asset management organization in investment operations, compliance, or fund administration
• Experience with middle- and back-office operations, procedures, and policies
• Some understanding of product structures and investments covering multiple asset classes (equity, fixed income, alternative funds, and/or foreign exchange)
• Solid communication skills with an ability to articulate low to medium complexity issues to a variety of audiences, including portfolio managers, traders and other business partners
