Firmex Looking for General Accountant – 12 Month Contract (Remote) at Toronto, Ontario, Canada Full Time

What can you expect in the role?

You will apply your financial expertise and your knowledge of accounting policies, procedures and practices to this exciting role. As a key team member of the organization, the role requires interaction and communication across all levels of the organization and participation in projects as needed as it relates to organizational growth, such as the implementation of any new systems and controls company wide. You will also be a key contributor to the annual financial statements audit process through the preparation of working papers for the external CPA firm, and respond to various queries and requests.

As our General Accountant, you will:

• Coordinate and control weekly billing activities, including following up on any customer enquiries as needed.
• Prepare weekly cash reconciliations of all Corporate bank accounts as well as provide a weekly cash forecast to Corporate
• Process payroll, commissions and other payroll related tasks including posting payroll journal entries and processing ROEs as needed.
• Prepare and process monthly commission payments; working with Firmex Business Intelligence
• Reconcile company corporate credit cards at month-end.
• File HST, PST and QST Returns
• Accounts Payable – posting vendor bills, AP processing and payments issuance
• Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations; provide supporting documentation during month-end close; such as calculating, validating, and recording commission accruals, re-classes and adjustments
• Support the company’s monthly general accounting financial statement close process
• Communicate regularly with operational business partners to identify issues and areas for operational improvement, share knowledge about financial trends and upcoming changes
• Prepare audit schedules as requested, including the support documentation
• Update and maintain process documentation for accounting processes
• Perform ad-hoc analysis and other job-related duties as assigned
• Partner with US parent on month end close deliverables including trial balance integration.
• Keep current on industry and accounting through participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations

What you’ll need to be successful as a General Accountant:

• 4+ years of practical experience in a finance and accounting role
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy and an ability to work independently is a must
• Knowledge of Intermediate accounting principles and concepts
• Experience with balance sheet reconciliations & payroll processing
• Advanced excel skills including experience with complex formulas (e.g. v-lookups, sumif, etc.), pivot tables, conditional formatting, etc
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate with external clients
• Self-motivated and able to work individually but also works well and great at collaborating in a team
• Time management and organizational skills in order to efficiently multi-task and prioritize competing demands
• Problem solving ability: critical thinking as well as using tact and diplomacy to effectively deal with questions and concerns from management and staff
• Knowledge of NetSuite considered an asset
