Function Overview:
The Field Development Representative (FDR) manages and implements a field-testing program within their specified geographic territory. The FDR is actively involved in a broad range of work activities, spanning early-stage lead optimization and venture qualification research, validation, and commercial product development. The FDR will work to obtain endorsements from university scientists and providing technical information for the launch process. The FDR reports to the Canadian Field Development Manager.
Responsibilities:
Manage outsourced field testing of discovery and commercialization agricultural chemicals in Manitoba and Southern Alberta.
Conduct 5-10 high confidence field tests of crop protection chemicals for biological efficacy and crop safety for discovery candidates and commercialization projects.
Summarize and communicate results and make recommendations for commercial use
Facilitate strong working relationship with Product Development Managers and Project Management teams
Ensure that all activities meet local, provincial, and Federal regulations and laws, including safe storage, shipping, handling, and application of PMRA approved and experimental agricultural products
Build strong team relationships with key university research specialists and other industry influencers
Represent FMC at industry events such as media summits, trade shows and regional and national scientific gatherings
Maintain strong technical knowledge of commercial, new chemistries & other technology impacting the business
Help train and mentor new employees as our team evolves.
Develop action plans and budgets that meet technical and operational objectives while managing time and priorities in an independent work environment
Provide input and participate with marketing, sales and tech sales as needed on market intelligence and business opportunities in local territory
Develop protocols for both internal and external research trials
Travel to third party sites for observations during the research season
Collect field research data and enter in corporate database in a timely manner. Responsible for the data quality for all development trials conducted within their specified geographic territory
Liaison with Provincial Minor Use Coordinators to support/facilitate PMRA registration of Minor Use Projects.
Required Education:
MSc, PhD or equivalent experience (min 5yrs) in technical fields preferably related to pesticides i.e. weed science, entomology, plant pathology, agronomy etc.
Qualifications:
Working knowledge of disease, insect and weed biology and appropriate field-testing procedures with a high level of technical competency in one or more of these disciplines
Strong knowledge of the Pest Control Product Act and its ongoing implementation by PMRA
Capable of designing protocols and research projects
Experience in the product development cycle for agricultural crop use patterns.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and collaborative cooperation
Ability to manage time and priorities in an independent work environment
Strong organizational analytical, and attention to detail skills
Commitment to continually increase breadth and level of scientific knowledge within key agricultural/biological science disciplines
Commitment to safe driving practices, chemical handling and use of equipment
Experience with ARM or other field trial management software is an asset.
Ability to travel approximately 20% of time from their home office base.
