About The Role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Director of Community Health and Wellness to join the FMFN Team! Fort McKay is a progressive First Nation in search of an innovative Director who will carry out the vision, objectives and strategic direction set by Chief and Council through operational standards, improvement of holistic community program delivery and policy development. The Director of Community Health and Wellness is responsible for the efficient management of all health-related departments, facilities, programs, services, and staff and must practice cultural awareness and sensitivity. This is a permanent full-time salaried position reporting directly to the CEO and is based on seventy-five (75) hours bi-weekly, located in Fort McKay, AB.
KEY RESPONSIBITIES
- Provide leadership and direction to planning, organizing, implementing, maintaining and evaluating culturally relevant, holistic and safe health and wellness programs and services
- Oversee and Manage all Health Centre staff; nurses, doctors, other contractual medical professionals and administrative employees
- Responsible and accountable to the CEO and Chief & Council of FMFN, reporting on a regular basis; quarterly, semiannually, and annually
- Oversee the Manager of Continuing Care at the Riverside Continuing Care Facility ensuring ongoing development of comprehensive care plans tailored to the resident’s short- and long-term requirements
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of professional societies and health agencies at the municipality, provincial, and federal level to ensure the compliance of FMFN health programs
- Administer the purchase, requisition, and maintenance of all Fort McKay Health Centre equipment and facilities
- Study and evaluate the public health needs of the community and make recommendations on the development of needed services and facilities
- In collaboration with staff establish work goals including review timelines, and results to be achieved by department staff
- Provides regular and annual performance evaluations for staff and consultants to ensure work completed achieves stated strategies
- Provide opportunities to staff to further develop and maintain skills and key competencies
- Complete other duties and projects as assigned
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- A Masters Degree in Health Administration or Public Health preferred Or at minimum a Degree in Human Services, Health Sciences, Nursing, Health Care Management, Social development or other related degree combined with 3-5 years of Health management
- Completion of the First Nations Health Directors Association Certification program or willingness to enrol and complete
- Five years or more experience working in a community health setting including development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of health, social and senior services programs
- Demonstrated Leadership experience working in First Nations Health
- Experience in accurate data and information management as it applies to the Health field
- Able to supply a clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector
- CPR and ACLS required
- Extensive Experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values
- Valid class 5 Driver’s License & Clean Driver’s Abstract Required
- Successful candidate will be required to live in (or relocate to) Fort McMurray, Alberta

The Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is composed of over 800 band members, including those of Cree and Dene heritage, with approximately 400 members residing in the hamlet of Fort McKay a community located approximately 65 km north of Fort McMurray.
