Join us at Fraser Health as a Temp Full Time Manger, Medical Device Reprocessing at Langley Memorial Hospital in Langley, BC. MDR is a vital key to keeping the hospital functioning and ensuring safe surgical tools are used in every hospital procedure and surgery – ranging from eye operations and C-sections to endoscopies and emergency-room treatments. Once medical devices are used, they are sent for sterilization or high-level disinfection to make them safe for use again. Every year we reprocess about 100,000 pieces of reusable medical devices.

Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families:
Responsible for planning and managing Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR)operations for specific sites across Fraser Health, and in collaboration with the Director, ensures the effective delivery of MDR services supporting the mission, philosophies and goals of Fraser Health.
Manages the movement of surgical instrumentation and ensures the sterility of all delivered instrumentation and supplies consistent with Fraser Health’s approved infection control guidelines and accepted reprocessing standards. Leads and manages human and financial resources for the designated portfolio; ascertains the delivery and implementation of material resources in an effective and efficient manner; is integral in providing leadership in redevelopment/renovation site projects, and supports the priorities, strategic plans, organizational initiatives and policies of Fraser Health.
Manages, plans, organizes and leads the operation of the MDR services for a designated portfolio/site consistent with Fraser Health policies and practices.
Manages program/service integration, strategic plan implementation, and evaluation of MDR for designated sites. In collaboration with the Director and management team, ensures the ongoing review and evaluation of Sterile Processing strategies, systems, programs and outcomes consistent with best practices and standards in alignment with Fraser Health’s strategic plan.
Determines and recommends portfolio staffing requirements. Recruits, directs, manages and evaluates staff ensuring orientation, performance evaluation and professional development of employees. Provides ongoing leadership and mentoring of staff; identifies and manages performance and discipline issues; initiates employee terminations as appropriate.
Ensures compliance with applicable acts and regulations for all staff. Interprets and administers collective agreements ; investigates and responds to grievances and employee issues; represents the Employer at labour relations forums as appropriate. Participates in the development and implementation of Essential Service Contingency Planning.
Develops and recommends portfolio budget to Director. Manages department budget; conducts variance analysis to determine shortfalls/discrepencies; recommends appropriate actions or adjustments and implements changes. Evaluates the human, financial and other resource utilization within portfolio making adjustments for effectiveness/efficiency.
Develops, implements and maintains systems to ensure effective reprocessing of equipment, materials and supplies; including a preventative maintenance program for assigned patient care equipment.
Provides input related to appropriate reprocessing locations and transfer requirements for sterile surgical instrumentation, including the development of protocols for safe decontamination and soiled return-transfer requirements.
In collaboration with management and surgical team members, makes recommendations related to the development and promotion of integrated and efficient services. Develops and recommends reprocessing standards in related departments regarding re-use, reprocessing, re-sterilization and recall of sterile goods. Plays an integral role in redevelopment/renovation projects.
Provides advice and recommendations to the Director on matters related to the development and implementation of dept goals, objectives, policies, practices, systems and standards.
Acts as an advocate for patients/residents/clients and families; responds to issues in the program to internal and external stakeholders and agencies.
Collaborates with the Director, key stakeholders and staff in the development of short and long range goals and objectives for Sterile Processing which support the mission, philosophies and goals of Fraser Health. Identifies critical issues and outcomes to achieve short, medium and long-term Sterile Processing strategies, plans, systems and programs. .
In collaboration with management, develops, implements, and evaluates measurable objectives for a Quality Assurance Program; promotes and applies research towards continuous improvement of services.
Prepares and provides reports, statistics, and information on workload management, department activity, and quality assurance for administrative and regulatory requirements.
Establishes and maintains collaborative partnerships with internal and external services/programs. Participates and/or leads internal and external committees as appropriate, at local, provincial, and national levels.
Education and Experience
Undergraduate degree in Health Sciences or related field, plus seven (7) years recent related experience including two (2) years in a leadership role; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

General knowledge of reprocessing and infection control principles, methods, and tools.

Ability to apply project management and/or quality improvement methodologies and strategic planning skills.
Develops, facilitates and nurtures an environment where quality improvement principles are used on a continuous basis.
Knowledge of relevant MDR standards and statutory regulations, legislation, and collective agreements.
Knowledge of budget planning principles and methods.
Effective computer literacy and knowledge of relevant software applications.
